HAVE YOUR SAY ON A PLACE NAME IN WINGECARRIBEE LGA

NSW Department of Customer Service < 1 mins read

The Geographical Names Board (GNB) is seeking community feedback on a proposal by Wingecarribee Shire Council to rename the locality of Balmoral to Balmoral Village.

Right now residents of Balmoral in Wingecarribee Shire Council are faced with service and delivery issues due to the name being duplicated in Lake Macquarie and Mosman Local Government Areas.

The proposed name Balmoral Village would support the community desire to remain connected with the history of the area while differentiating it sufficiently to alleviate confusion with the duplication.

GNB is seeking feedback to gauge community sentiment for the proposed name with suggestions for alternative names not being sought at this time.

Details of the proposal can be viewed and submissions lodged on the Geographical Names Board’s website from 21 June until 21 July 2023.

Written submissions may be mailed to the Secretary, Geographical Names Board, 346 Panorama Ave, Bathurst, NSW 2795.

Quotes to be attributed to Chair of the Geographical Names Board Narelle Underwood:

“It is important that place names reflect the character and history of the local area and community”.

“We want to make sure everyone has an opportunity to provide their feedback on the proposed name.”

NCOSS REACTS TO DRUG SUMMIT

Thursday, 5 December 2024 NCOSS has called on the NSW Premier to implement a whole-of-government drug and alcohol strategy after the two-day Drug Summit wrapped up this afternoon. NCOSS CEO Cara Varian said there was robust discussion across the Summit, but the Government now needs to turn this into action. “This Summit brought together a broad group of stakeholders, and we had some productive discussions – but it can’t stop there,” Ms Varian said. “It was clear that we are failing our most marginalised communities, including first nations people, young people and culturally and linguistically diverse communities. People, their families…

PEAK BODY CALLS FOR DRUG AND ALCOHOL FUNDING IN NEXT BUDGET FOLLOWING DRUG SUMMIT WRAP UP

Thursday, 5 December 2024 The Network of Alcohol and other Drugs Agencies (NADA) has said the NSW Government does not need to wait for the Drug Summit report to be handed down to increase funding for alcohol and other drug (AOD) services. NADA CEO Dr Robert Stirling said the NSW Government can act now by allocating more funding to the sector in the next Budget. “While the Summit featured a healthy debate and interest discussion across the two days, we already know what needs to be done,” Dr Stirling said. “The priorities that were discussed today were already covered in…
