Solidarity Sausages - 163 families left in limbo

VicForests staff are not able to move on with life decisions while the State Government obfuscates about the organisations future so the union is hosting a BBQ for our members and their guests from the North East region in Alexandra on Tuesday this week.

Foresters will come together as a community affected by the announcement on native timber harvesting to discuss the impacts this has on their ongoing work and the local impacts in their rural communities.

Come to our BBQ to meet the State's Forgotten Foresters this Tuesday.

Where: Rotary Park, Alexandra
When: Tuesday 25th July 12pm-2pm

The bulk of VicForests staff are based in regional Victoria where they are part of the fabric of their communities as volunteers with sports clubs, schools, kinders, the CFA, VicSES, and other community groups.

As members of Forests Fire Management Victoria they have been on the front line protecting their communities in events such as the 2019-2020 Black Summer and 2009 Black Saturday bushfires.

VicForests staff are highly trained as foresters and ecologists, having completed a broad range of qualifications and decades of experience in Victorian native forests developing harvesting strategies, conducting ecological surveys, regeneration and building strong relationships with their communities.

The Government has agreed to a number of important reforms, including tighter eligibility requirements, mandatory health assessments, stronger screening processes and tougher penalties. These measures represent important progress toward a safer community. However, the Government has missed a critical opportunity to strengthen public safety by ruling out a cap on individual firearm ownership. Additionally, it has so…

Regulator reduces Victorian default electricity prices

The Essential Services Commission has announced a reduction in Victoria’s default electricity prices to apply from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027. The Victorian Default Offer is dropping in each of the state's five electricity distribution zones, by an average of five percent for residential customers and six per cent for small businesses. On average, households on the Victorian Default Offer will save $84 a year and small businesses on the offer will save $241 a year. The Victorian Default Offer is a fair, independently set electricity price that acts as an important safeguard: ensuring all homes and small…

Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry

Victoria cannot afford more workplace regulation while businesses remain under pressure

The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) has warned that the Victorian Government’s insistence to legislate working from home arrangements is being rushed and poorly timed as businesses continue grappling with the ongoing impacts of the Middle East fuel crisis, rising operating costs and weakening business conditions across the State. The Victorian Government must undertake a full Legislative Impact Assessment before proceeding with any working from home legislation, including detailed modelling of compliance costs, productivity impacts, workforce implications and effects on small businesses. New VCCI business survey data shows the fuel crisis continues to place sustained pressure on Victorian…
