CIMIC Group 2 mins read

CIMIC Group’s CPB Contractors has been selected by the Queensland Government as managing contractor for stage one of the new Bundaberg Hospital.

CPB Contractors will lead the design phase of the project which involves the design of a new six-storey hospital for acute, medical, surgical and mental health services, as well as emergency, clinical support services, and associated infrastructure. CPB Contractors may follow with the construction phase of the project.

The new Bundaberg Hospital has an overall value of $1.2 billion. It is part of the Queensland Government’s $9.78 billion Queensland Health and Hospitals Plan (Capacity Expansion Program).

CIMIC Group Executive Chairman Juan Santamaria said: “CPB Contractors has extensive experience in the delivery of state-of-the-art health infrastructure and facilities, and we’re pleased to be selected for construction of this new hospital for Bundaberg.

“This is an important project that will provide the local community with a future-proofed modern health facility to meet their needs, improving access to emergency, surgical, paediatric and mental health facilities. We will work with Queensland’s health system to deliver an innovative, modern and flexible design.”

CPB Contractors Managing Director Jason Spears said: “CPB Contractors has a deep affinity with Bundaberg and the Wide Bay-Burnett region and understands new Bundaberg Hospital’s crucial role as a world-class health care hub.

“The project will employ a peak workforce of approximately 500 people and generate more than 2,500 local jobs during construction, enhancing local capability through key opportunities in Indigenous employment, procurement, apprenticeships and traineeships. We look forward to working with the Queensland Government to deliver a first-rate health facility that generates lasting benefits for the people of Bundaberg and the Wide Bay-Burnett region.”

The new Bundaberg Hospital is expected to be completed in the second half of 2027, weather and construction conditions permitting.
