Dying babies deserve full rights

Coalition for the Defence of Human Life < 1 mins read

PERTH, WESTERN AUSTRALIA - AUGUST 12, 2023

The Coalition for the Defence of Human Life is alarmed that many “pro-woman” MPs want to take away rights of babies who have been born alive but left to die after a failed abortion.

The pro-child-rights coalition said that coroner’s reports are crucial to ensure medical accountability and protection for the unborn.

“The Abortion Legislation Reforms Bill 2023 seeks to remove protections for born alive West Australians if they die following an abortion,” said CDHL spokeswoman Maryka Groenewald.

“It is crucial for safety and trust in the WA medical system that a coroner makes findings on lethal anomalies or abortion-related procedures, which caused or accelerated the death of a Western Australian child.

“All nurses and doctors have an obligation to follow the law and objective ethics - that all babies must receive the care that any other child is entitled to," according to Mrs Groenewald, the principal petitioner for the Abortion Reforms parliamentary e-petition.

“Some WA MPs have claimed that the coroner intrudes upon, or is a source of trauma, for the mother.

“A coroner has no need to ask the mother any questions at all – nor interrupt the mothers’ grieving process."
