Healthscope and Bupa’s renewed partnership helping modernise patient care

August 17, 2023 2 mins read

Improved patient experience and a focus on contemporary models of care underpins a renewed three-year partnership between Healthscope and Bupa.

As part of the renewed hospital contract, a Joint Steering Committee, to be comprised of clinicians and senior leaders from Bupa and Healthscope, will be established to help expand offerings for Bupa members on new models of care to improve the value of private health care, while also collaborating on new initiatives to introduce efficiencies into the overall system.

Patient and members’ hospital experience will help drive change with their feedback and insights shared with the committee to help ensure their clinical and non-clinical needs are understood and met.

Healthscope CEO Greg Horan said the renewed partnership with Bupa represented a step change that would help deliver outstanding patient care for Bupa members, underpinned by sustainable hospital funding and a reduced administrative and compliance burden.

“This is a truly collaborative partnership that recognises the rising costs facing private hospitals, and also sees both parties committed to delivering innovative new care options,” Mr Horan said.

“With sustainable funding embedded in the partnership, we will be able to jointly invest in enhancing overall experience for Bupa members during their health care journey in our hospitals.”

The agreement between Bupa and Healthscope, which is the only private hospital group to have hospitals in every state and territory in Australia, will help limit out of pocket costs for patients and members.

Bupa Health Insurance Managing Director Chris Carroll said the partnership with Healthscope acknowledged increased costs in healthcare and a commitment to innovative models of care which leads to care in the most appropriate setting with positive outcomes.

“Going to hospital can be a daunting and stressful time for people, so we’re thrilled our members can have peace of mind knowing they’ll be covered at Healthscope hospitals,” Mr Carroll said.

“Our partnership with Healthscope is a great example of hospitals and private health insurers working together to explore new initiatives while ensuring greater choice of care and keeping healthcare affordable.

“This agreement recognises the changing clinical needs of our members and being part of a contemporary health care system.”
