As the 49th Australian Labor Party (ALP) Conference looms, Right to Life Australia opposes proposed motions to enshrine free abortions - Australia-wide - into the Party’s policy platform.
Mary Collier, spokesperson for Right to Life Australia, stated “Ironically, we celebrate seeing babies moving and growing inside a mother’s womb through ultrasound yet - on the other hand the ALP wants to increase the shameful loss of unborn life - over 80,000 abortions every year in Australia!
Since 1979 our taxes have been used to pay for abortions – now we will be asked to PAY MORE TO KILL MORE unborn children, at all stages - up to birth.’’
The government must return to its core Labor values and focus on addressing lack of maternity care for women in regional and remote areas, some who have to give birth away from home leading to removal from families and poor outcomes. Further, Aboriginal women and babies continue to have poorer outcomes than non-Aboriginal women and babies[1]’’ – the government must re focus and Close the Gap.
Mrs Collier went on to announce Right to Life Australia has launched a platform allowing Australians to contact their elected ALP representatives.
"Every Australian deserves a voice, especially on matters as profound as life itself,” Mary Collier said, “We've launched this initiative to empower Australians to stand for life. It's high time our representatives truly listened to the concerns of their constituents."
“We’re calling on all Australians to demand the Labor Party - the Party in Power - vote down the radical abortion motions at their Conference this weekend.”
