The Being Group creates brand identity and website for unique government agency

The Being Group 2 mins read

A new executive agency, established to amplify the voices of people with lived and living experiences of violence, the Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Commission (the Commission), launched its website and brand identity to the Australian public today.

The Commission was established in July 2022 with the aim of ending gender-based violence through shaping policy and service delivery and fostering collaboration across government and community.

The Being Group was engaged to create a distinctive, informative brand identity and website for the Commission, to ensure it is as effective as possible in executing its complex and important strategy.

“The Commission is a connecting body across government and community,” says The Being Group’s Principal and Co-founder, Kerry Neethling. “It needs to be accessible and easily understood by diverse groups of people, while at the same time making its purpose clear to the organisations with which it must collaborate to be effective. That’s a tough brief.”

Inspired by extensive workshop discussions with key Commission stakeholders, the chosen identity uses a “speech bubble” design to symbolise the connection of community and government — allowing audiences to see themselves represented in the identity.

The design, in a neutral palette with pops of striking orange and blue, is simple and flexible, allowing it to carry the powerful ideas of pathways to change and connection in conversation.

The written brand personality, also created by The Being Group, is clear and direct to avoid ambiguity and focus on the Commission’s primary goals.

"‘I am deeply committed to addressing and ending violence against women and children in all its forms. I am looking forward to the contribution I will make as Commissioner. The new National Plan is an ambitious blueprint, but it is a truly national document with collaboration from all jurisdictions and stakeholders. I will take my responsibility to measure the success of the National Plan delivery seriously," says Australia’s first Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Commissioner, Micaela Cronin.
