Tram workers will be taking industrial action in support of their campaign for better pay and conditions this weekend, which may cause some interruptions to post-match tram services at Adelaide Oval on Saturday.
Rail, Tram and Bus Union (RTBU) SA/NT Branch Secretary Darren Phillips said commuters using trams to get home from the Crows versus Swans match at Adelaide Oval tomorrow night should plan for some extra travel time, or look for alternative transport options.
“It is deeply disappointing that workers have been forced to take industrial action, but unfortunately they have lost faith in the ability of Torrens Connect management to resolve this dispute.
“The company has failed to put a decent Enterprise Agreement on the table and negotiations have now stalled.
“All workers are asking for is a pay rise that keeps pace with the rising cost of living, and conditions that support safe and secure tram services for commuters.
“Torrens Connect’s stubbornness shows they do not care about commuters, or footy fans, and are only interested in maximising their profits.
“It’s time for Torrens Connect to start playing ball, and to put forward a fair offer on pay and conditions.”
Mr Phillips said key conditions that tram workers were seeking include:
- a 3-year Enterprise Agreement length;
- 3% wage increase per year or CPI - whichever is greater;
- removal of split-shift provision from the Enterprise Agreement to reduce fatigue; and
- better training with a Certificate 3 Light Rail Operations for all operators.
