Offshore Alliance members vote up Woodside EA, members at Chevron consider FWC recommendation

OA < 1 mins read

Offshore Alliance members at Woodside have overwhelmingly voted to endorse a deal with the company while members at Chevron will meet tonight to consider a recommendation made this morning by the Fair Work Commission (FWC) after the parties were engaged in talks before the FWC earlier in the week.

While tonight Offshore Alliance members at Woodside can rightly be expected to be celebrating negotiating an industry standard enterprise agreement with Woodside, the first agreement to apply to workers on the platforms in 30 years, Offshore Alliance members at Chevron will be in a more contemplative mood as they consider the FWC’s recommendation.

Offshore Alliance spokesperson, and AWU WA Secretary Brad Gandy, says members at Chevron will be carefully considering the recommendation put forward by the FWC.

“While tonight Offshore Alliance members at Woodside can rightly be expected to be celebrating negotiating an industry standard Enterprise Agreement with Woodside, Offshore Alliance members at Chevron will be actively considering this morning’s Fair Work Commission recommendation,” says Brad Gandy.

“Our members at Chevron will be tonight considering Commissioner Riordan’s recommendation carefully as it touches on some key bargaining claims.

“I look forward to learning our member’s thoughts about the recommendation. As always, we will take direction from our members in how we respond,” says Brad Gandy.

Half of Australian workers live paycheck to paycheck: ADP Report

Melbourne, Australia, 13 June 2025 – Despite employment reaching a record high in 2024, half of Australian workers (50%) are living paycheck to paycheck, according to ADP Research’s People atWork 2025 report. The study, which surveyed nearly 38,000 workers across 34 markets, uncovers starkregional disparities and generational divides in the global workforce’s financial resilience. The findings reveal a complex financial picture, both locally and internationally: taking on extra workdoesn’t necessarily close the pay gap, as nearly six in 10 (57%) workers surveyed globally are stillstruggling to make ends meet, even working multiple jobs. In Australia, over half (52%) of workers…

Shoalhaven Mayor to sack 1 in 5 staff

Shoalhaven City Council will sack one in five of its staff, up to 110 people, under a plan the Mayor, Councillor Patricia White, rammed through council on Tuesday night despite Councillor White assuring staff at a meeting in December their jobs were safe. The stunning plan for mass sackings was opposed by many Councillors who expressed disbelief at the Mayoral move. Councillors Jemma Tribe, Matthew Norris, Ben Krikstolaitis, Gillian Boyd and Natalee Johnston opposed the plan. Stuart Geddes from the United Services Union, which represents the employees, says staff are in a state of shock. “The Mayor has been telling…
