Schools Spectacular’s Fabulous, featured artists begin rehearsals next week

NSW Department of Education 2 mins read

Rehearsals for this year’s Schools Spectacular begin on Monday (25 September), with 57 students from schools across the state coming together for the first time to prepare for the November shows.

The featured artists range in age from 11 to 18 years and went through a rigorous audition process before being chosen from more than 550 nominations to perform at this year's 40th anniversary show, ‘Fabulous’.

They include singers, dancers, musicians and co-hosts who will spend the first week of the school holidays immersed in intensive rehearsals at the Department of Education’s Arts Unit in Lewisham.

During the week-long rehearsals, the students will practise their songs and segments, engage in one-on-one singing workshops, undergo styling and costume fittings and participate in wellbeing sessions.

The featured artists will join more than 5,000 performers drawn from public schools across the state for this year’s live performances at Qudos Bank Arena on 24 and 25 November 2023.

The world’s largest annual variety show will also include an 80-piece symphony orchestra, a stage band, 2,600-voice choir, 2,300 dancers, the D’Arts Ensemble for students with disability, the Aboriginal Dance Ensemble, featured dancers and specialist performers - all under the guidance of more than 600 teachers.

The Schools Spectacular is proudly supported by sponsors and supporters: Telstra, NSW Teachers Federation, School Bytes, RØDE, Smartsalary, Teachers Health, Colmed Group, Steinway Australia, Sony Australia and Event Partners: Qudos Bank Arena, Seven Network and Ticketek.

‘Staggering’: ANU cuts more jobs while asking staff to take pay cut

The National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) has slammed Australian National University’s bid to cut pay while announcing more job losses. Management has also asked staff to give up their already agreed 2.5 per cent pay rise in December. Quotes attributable to NTEU ACT Division Secretary Dr Lachlan Clohesy: “It is staggering that a Vice Chancellor thinks they can convince staff that giving up their pay will save jobs, while at the same time announcing…
