Security Committee to postpone hearing on intelligence oversight legislation

The Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security (PJCIS) has resolved to postpone its first public hearing for its review of the Intelligence Services Legislation Amendment Bill 2023 scheduled on 15 September 2023.

Hearings for this review will be rescheduled for a later date.

Former ATO contractor found guilty of fraud

A former contractor to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, with immediate release on a recognisance release order conditioned that she be of good behaviour for three years, for defrauding the ATO of more than $105,000 through Operation Protego. The fraudulently obtained funds have since been repaid. Eva Dierens was based in Maroochydore and worked for the ATO between 2019 and 2021, assisting taxpayers with income tax, business tax, and debt-related matters.
