Join the 2023 Diamond Guild Australia Awards Exclusive Preview
SUNDAY 3 SEPTEMBER 2023: The Diamond Guild Australia Jewellery Awards will be judged by four leading industry experts on Tuesday 5th September 2023 in Sydney. You are invited to view the best of Australian diamond design and speak to our illustrious panel of judges on jewellery trends and innovation.
Regarded as the foremost jewellery design competition in Australia, the Diamond Guild Jewellery Awards has traditionally been a biennial event since its establishment in 2005. Hosted by the members of the Guild, the Awards are open to all members of the retail jewellery trade operating within Australia.
The 2023 Diamond Guild Awards features the 6 design categories of previous years and introduces a new rendering category entitled ‘Design for Diamonds’ which called for professional jewellery designers to submit their concept via a rendering of any means – this includes hand drawing, CAD and programs such as Procreate.
The line-up of categories contested at the 2023 Diamond Guild Australia Jewellery Awards are as follows:

From each category, up to three finalists will be selected on Tuesday 5th September and the winner chosen based on the stringent points based judging system. The winners will then contest the prize of 2023 SUPREME AWARD WINNER based on the entry with the highest overall score.
The judges for the 2023 Awards include:
Dr. Brandon Gien
Dr Brandon Gien is the CEO of Good Design Australia, Chair of the Australian Good Design Awards, and Deputy Chair of the Australian Design Council.
This is Brandon’s third time judging the Diamond Guild Jewellery Awards.
Karlie Ungar
Karlie Ungar is a multi-disciplinary designer across fashion and interior design. With expertise in shaping and building Australian heritage brands, Ungar utilises her extensive design experience to seamlessly transition between design realms.
With her role as the Creative Director at Carla Zampatti, Ungar infuses her specialist practice of tailoring and construction with CZ’s distinct design philosophy.
Bebe Bakhshi
Bebe Bakhshi is a Melbourne based jewellery blogger and diamond enthusiast with passion for high-end jewels and diamonds.
Her Instagram account @champagnegem has a massive 958k followers. As both a sponsor and judge of the 2023 Awards, we are excited to showcase both our finalists and winners with such a large online audience.
Lester Brand
Lester Brand, from Lester Band Jewellery, is our 2023 technical advisor.
About the 2023 Awards
Diamond Guild Australia will be emphasising the rarity and beauty of natural diamonds in the 2023 Competition in response to the recent emergence of man-made diamonds in the Australian Diamond industry.
‘The membership of the Guild has taken a strictly “natural diamond only” position and this will be reflected in the criteria for entries into the 2023 Awards. Pieces featuring man made diamonds will not be eligible and all submissions will be required to provide proof of the natural origin on the diamonds used.” Explains Melissa James, Executive Officer of Diamond Guild Australia.
The pinnacle of the 2023 Diamond Guild Australia Awards is the Gala event celebrating the finalists and winners and is held at the aptly named new Langham Jewel Hotel on the Gold Coast on 24th October 2023.
