CIMIC Group < 1 mins read

CIMIC Group’s CPB Contractors has been selected by the Australian Government’s Department of Defence to undertake the early contractor involvement (ECI) development phase for the upgrades at RAAF Bases Curtin and Learmonth.

Subject to successful completion of this ECI phase, a delivery phase will follow.

Both bases are in Western Australia, with RAAF Base Curtin located southeast of Derby and RAAF Base Learmonth being a RAAF airbase, with civilian airport operations, located south of Exmouth.

CIMIC Group Executive Chairman Juan Santamaria said: “Our relationship with the Department of Defence stretches over decades and we are pleased to continue to be relied upon to deliver infrastructure upgrades for these vital airbases. CPB Contractors’ focus as always will be on the safe and certain delivery of Defence’s requirements.”

CPB Contractors Managing Director Jason Spears said: “CPB Contractors has successfully delivered upgrades at RAAF Bases Pearce, Amberley and Williamtown and will be applying this experience to ensure that normal operations continue without disruption while works are underway. Our teams will be supporting the participation of local industry in line with CPB Contractors’ ongoing commitment to building industry capacity and capability through the delivery of major projects, including these two important Defence airbases.”

Works will involve upgrades to runways, taxiways, parking areas and aeronautical ground lighting, asphalting and the enhancement of culverts and drainage.

The ECI phase is expected to be completed in 2024, with construction completed in 2028.
