KORDAMENTHA LAUNCHES SALE PROCESS FOR A-LEAGUE FOOTBALL CLUB NEWCASTLE JETS
KordaMentha has today been engaged by the owners to commence the sale of the Newcastle Jets Football Club.
The Club competes in the Isuzu UTE A-League Men and the Liberty A-League Women, the highest levels of professional football in Australia and New Zealand.
KordaMentha was appointed by the current owners, a consortium formed in early 2021, connected to other A-League clubs.
At that time, the acquisition of the Club was intended as an interim measure to stabilise the Club, to deliver a competitive team and strong growth and then, at the appropriate time, provide ownership transition.
Today, the current owners have overseen a growing membership, attracted more sponsors and cultivated a strong pipeline of talent through the Youth Academy.
KordaMentha Partner Scott Langdon said he expected a lot of interest in the sale, given growing support and engagement with the A-League and its teams.
“The A-League is expanding. With Auckland just announced as joining the competition, the game continues to increase its popularity and profile in the Australian market,” he said.
“Aside from growth here in Australia, football is the world game, so we anticipate expressions of interest from parties around the world who understand what it takes to run a professional sports club.”
“Our sale process is focused on the Jets having new owners prior to Christmas, so the Jets can enter 2024 with new ownership and a long-term vision for sustained success.”
The Newcastle Jets Football Club was formed in 2000 as part of the National Soccer League (NSL) and was one of only three NSL clubs to join the inaugural season of the A-League in 2005.
The Club won the A-League Championship in 2007/08 and played in a home A-League Grand Final in 2017/18, and a women’s team was formed in that year to compete in the W-League.
