TVSN LAUNCH SOUTH AFRICAN HOMEWARE BRAND WONKI WARE

TVSN 2 mins read

Sydney, Australia – 2 October 2023 - TVSN launches exquisite South African homeware brand, Wonki Ware on Summer Living Day, 2 October 2023.

100% handmade by no less than 15 individuals, each Wonki Ware piece is unique and reflects intentional irregularities in size, glaze, and texture to illustrate the humanness of each, delicate and beautifully crafted piece.

The Wonki Ware Collection is designed to be mixed and matched from the 40 different patterns, designs and textures.

Wonki Ware hails from the small town of George located on the breathtaking Garden Route in South Africa. What initially began as a hobby, has since achieved international acclaim. “I happily started working on my pottery whilst waiting for my children to finish school and slowly attracted the attention of the local community,” says founder of Wonki Ware, Di Marshall.

At around the same time, a young Xhosa man named Artwell Lulamile Mthonjeni started arriving every morning looking for work with Di. Although she was not able to pay him, he was willing to learn and started producing very sensitively worked platters and bowls.  “We have now been in operation for about 20 years and presently employ around 80 people from disadvantaged backgrounds. They are now all skilled employees in their trade, and are valuable, contributing members in their communities.”

All Wonki Ware Products are 100% hand-made and comprise of “stoneware”, which is a vitreous (or semi-vitreous) ceramic made primarily from stoneware clay and fired at very high temperatures.

Wonki Ware will be available from Monday, 2nd October on Summer Living Day. Log on to www.tvsn.com.au or download the TVSNnow App from your Google or Play Store.

Rates of IVF twins and triplets hit record low: new report

Australia continues to be one of the safest countries globally for IVF treatment, the latest data shows. Fewer and fewer twins and triplets are being born through IVF in Australia, bringing IVF and overall Australian multiple birth rates closer together, a new report by UNSW Sydney medical researchers shows. Having twins and triplets was once considered the greatest risk of IVF treatment, but the latest IVF report shows that multiple births are less and less common. And the decrease in multiple birth rates – resulting from an accompanying increase in single embryo transfers – reflects the level of safety parents-to-be…

Thirty years too long to turn a blind eye to world population growth

Talent Alert: Sustainable Population Australia, Dr Jane O'Sullivan responds to 30th anniversary of UN ICPD September 13 marks thirty years since the United Nations International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in Cairo effectively denounced population stabilisation as a development goal. Sustainable Population Australia (SPA) argues it is time for a reset. “World population is still growing by about 90 million a year,” notes SPA spokesperson Dr Jane O’Sullivan. “It is deepening poverty and food insecurity, and the natural environment can’t cope. “At Cairo a new ideology falsely claimed all promotion of birth control led to human rights abuses."
