All systems go for Seeds for Snapper first harvest to make a splash

OzFish Unlimited < 1 mins read
More than 550 volunteers are set to take part in Australia’s largest community driven seagrass restoration program on Tuesday 14 November.

The annual Seeds for Snapper will get their harvest underway in Cockburn Sound with seagrass fruit collection dives taking place daily for the next 4 to 6 weeks. The volunteers are attempting to collect more than 1 million seagrass fruits for restoration.

Steve Pursell, OzFish Program Manager - Western Australia, said there may not be as many seagrass fruit as last year so volunteers may also need to pitch in on the beach to pick up fruits that have been washed ashore.

“We have the largest cohort of volunteers registered this year so I think those extra hands will help us reach our goals. It really demonstrates the momentum that’s gathering in the community” said Steve.
