MEDIA ALERT: ROUNDTABLE AND PHOTO OPP ON WOODSIDE’S BURRUP HUB

Greenpeace, Conservation Council WA, Doctors for the Environment WA and Environs Kimberley 2 mins read

Embargoed until 5am Monday 27th November

Politicians, experts and campaigners will bring the beauty of the Scott Reef and the stark reality of Woodside’s proposed Burrup Hub - Australia’s greatest climate threat - to Parliament House.

The delegation will lead a photo opp on the lawns of Parliament House and host a roundtable discussion to highlight the massive climate and devastating nature threats of Australia’s biggest current fossil fuel proposal.

New emissions data from Greenpeace to be released on Monday shows that the predicted emissions from Woodside’s Burrup Hub dwarfs all other proposed fossil fuel projects and extensions currently undergoing federal environmental approvals.

Misguided ‘tough on crime’ policies leading to Closing the Gap failures: Jesuit Social Services

As Australia marks National Closing the Gap Day, new data released by the Productivity Commission’s Closing the Gap dashboard shows that Australia is on track to meet only four of the 19 targets and that Australia is going backwards on key targets - the rate of suicide, adult imprisonment, the number of children developmentally on track, and children in out-of-home care. “The Productivity Commission’s updated Closing the Gap results are shocking but not surprising. Governments around Australia have celebrated “tough on crime” policies and increases in the number of prison beds. These misplaced priorities lie at the heart of these…
