You are cordially invited to the exclusive media preview of Ramses & the Gold of the Pharaohs, at the Australian Museum.     

 

Featuring 182 priceless artefacts, including the sarcophagus of Ramses II - one of the rarest and most impressive royal coffins from ancient Egypt ever to be discovered – as well as the timeless beauty of jewellery, masks, amulets and animal sarcophagi, many of which have never left Egypt before.

 

Media are welcome to photograph and film inside the exhibition before it is open to the public.

 

WHEN: Thursday 16 November 2023.

Photography and filming opportunities include:

  • The coffin of Ramses the Great: Exclusive to the Australian Museum and on direct loan from Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities, Ramses’ coffin is rarely permitted to leave Egypt and Sydney will become only the second city in the world, after Paris, to showcase the extremely valuable artefact.
  • Upper part of a limestone colossus of Ramses II: This 725kg limestone colossal statue depicts Ramses lI.
  • Golden Masks and magnificent jewellery: including a solid gold collar, crafted over 3000 years ago and weighing 4.3kg.  
  • Animal mummies: Including cats, crocodiles, mongoose, lion cub.
  • Virtual Reality experience: With cinematic motion chairs, viewers can experience flying through temples, sandstorms, and even coming face-to-face with Ramses’ mummy in this electrifying animated journey.

ABOUT: Ramses & the Gold of the Pharaohs is an all-new multisensory museum experience providing visitors with a window into the life and accomplishments of Ramses II, more commonly known as Ramses the Great, who ruled Egypt for 67 years – the second longest reign for any pharaoh and living to an astonishing 92 years of age .

 

Exclusive to Sydney, Ramses & the Gold of the Pharaohs features 182 priceless artefacts including Egyptian treasures and one-of-a-kind relics – including the sarcophagus of Ramses II - one of the most impressive royal coffins from ancient Egypt ever to be discovered – many of which have never left Egypt before.

 

On this immersive journey visitors will discover a stunningly preserved collection of artefacts, including sarcophagi, animal mummies, magnificent jewellery, spectacular royal masks, exquisite amulets, and ornate golden treasures showcasing the superb workmanship of Egyptian artisans.
