The best in building and construction celebrated

Master Builders Australia 5 mins read

Tools were down to celebrate the building and construction industry’s best and brightest at the 2023 National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards in Perth on Saturday night.

Master Builders Australia CEO Denita Wawn congratulated the winners of the 51 award categories and finalists for reaching this highly competitive stage.

The annual three-day event culminates in the announcement of the country’s best builders in residential, commercial and civil construction, recognising the projects that have won them acclaim.

Four major awards were announced on the night:

  • National Apprentice of the Year
  • Toyota National Young Builder of the Year
  • National Residential Master Builder of the Year
  • National Construction Master Builder of the Year

Built in JV with Obayashi (BOJV) & in partnership with Walker Corporation, took out the top spot winning the National Construction Master Builder of the Year Award for their work on 6 & 8 Parramatta Square.

“The 30,000 sqm Parramatta Square precinct comprises 4 commercial towers, plus a new civic library, council chambers and community facilities.

“The Joint venture with Obayashi and the Walker Corporation developed smart solutions to the complex problems of building this mega structure while still maintaining the desired function and appearance,” Ms Wawn said.

National Residential Master Builder of the Year V-Build Construction Services won the award for their Mountain View home project in Queensland.

“The stunning home reflecting the New Zealand mountain home combined with a US Ranch style, was a difficult build from the very start.

“The entire footprint of the house was excavated to rock, roads were built to access the estate, new electrical mains and fibre optical cabling was installed in addition to sewer treatment plants and half a million litres of water storage.

“The home is also an entertainer's dream with a whisky room, wine cellar, wine room, and commercially capable kitchen over four rooms, six fireplaces, and cinema.” Ms Wawn said.

Ellsie Mead from Tasmania was awarded National Apprentice of the Year for her ability to lead and excel in her role, especially considering her relative youth in the field.

“Ellsie's decision to pursue the WHS Certificate IV illustrates her foresight, dedication, and motivation to continually enhance her skills and knowledge. She has undeniably earned the distinction of being a standout as the 2023 National Apprentice of the Year Award,” Ms Wawn said.

South Australian Matthew Pezzuto was awarded Toyota Young National Builder of the Year. Since launching Horizon Construction Services, Matthew has demonstrated a commitment to quality, service and safety in the industry.

“Matthew has a strong focus on building excellent client relationships and producing quality results through a transparent, flexible, collaborative and proactive approach,” Ms Wawn said.

Master Builders acknowledges the awards platinum sponsors Toyota, CBUS, and major sponsors Shell Card, Office of the Federal Safety Commissioner, Wood Solutions, Master Builders Insurance Brokers, Timber Framing Collective, Archipro and Women Building Australia.
