VISION AUSTRALIA SEEING EYE DOGS GRADUATION TO TAKE CENTRE STAGE AT PARLIAMENT HOUSE

Hard work and dedication of Seeing Eye Dogs from across NSW to be recognised

13 Seeing Eye Dogs and their handlers who have completed the Seeing Eye Dogs training program in the last 12 months will be celebrated in a special graduation ceremony hosted by The Hon. Kate Washington, Minister for Disability Inclusion at NSW Parliament House on Wednesday, November 22. NSW Premier Chris Minns will also be in attendance

It takes around two years and $50,000 dollars to develop a Seeing Eye Dog to be ready to be matched with someone who is blind or has low vision. Seeing Eye Dogs and their handlers then undergo a period of intensive training before they officially graduate the program.

"It's a significant achievement for both the Seeing Eye Dog and handler to graduate and becoming a working partnership and all that time and effort is something that deserves to be celebrated," Chris Edwards, Vision Australia director of government relations and advocacy, said.

MEDIA CALL: The Seeing Eye Dog graduation ceremony will take place from 1pm-2.30pm on Wednesday, November 22 at the NSW Parliament House Rooftop Garden. Seeing Eye Dogs puppies, staff and clients will be available to media.

Human Rights Act for NSW

120 NSW organisations call for a Human Rights Act

Key Facts: Many people in NSW assume their human rights are already protected by other laws – but this is not always the case. The absence of a Human Rights Act in NSW leaves residents with some of the weakest legal protection of their human rights anywhere in the Western democratic world. An alliance of more than 120 legal and community organisations, religious bodies and trade unions is calling on the NSW Government to seize on the opportunity this week to strengthen human rights protections by establishing a public inquiry into the introduction of a Human Rights Act for New…

Rescuers will be on the Kerang wetlands in north west Victoria Laurie Levy, Campaign Director, today said: “The late 1950s Liberal Premier Sir Henry Bolte would today be proud of Victoria’s Left-leaning Labor Premier Jacinta Allan who will again have the blood of some 300,000 native waterbirds on her hands”. “Allowing a duck shooting season to proceed following Victoria’s bushfires that took a terrible toll of Victoria’s native wildlife, Premier Allan has again bowed to the wishes of a dwindling number of duck shooters, who make up less than 0.2 per cent of all Victorians and her two powerful Union…
