Our Watch, a national leader in preventing violence against women, invites media to attend a free one-hour online masterclass on exploring strength-based media reporting to prevent violence against women from diverse communities on Thursday 30 November from 12:30pm to 1:30pm (AEDT). 

Led by Sarah Malik, a Walkley-award winning Australian investigative journalist, author, television presenter, and Our Watch Fellow, this webinar will support journalists to gain a deeper understanding of the impacts of violence against women from diverse backgrounds, including how media narratives can either exacerbate or counteract these effects.   

Panellists will discuss the power of strength-based reporting and provide journalists with practical strategies to enhance their reporting and ensure the safety of those they cover.   

The webinar panel of experts includes: 

  • Mariam Veiszadeh, CEO Media Diversity Australia, Lawyer, Founder & Chair Islamophobia Register Australia  

  • Amao Leota Lu, Samona fa'afafine, trans woman Elder and consultant 

  • Dr. Usha Manchanda Rodrigues, Media scholar
