Galan Lithium Limited (ASX:GLN) – HMW Phase 1 Construction on Schedule for Production H1 2025

Galan Lithium Limited (ASX:GLN) 3 mins read

Galan Lithium Limited (ASX:GLN) ("Galan" or the "Company"), a leader in lithium extraction and production, is excited to announce substantial progress in the construction of its 100% owned Hombre Muerto West (HMW) Phase 1 lithium brine project. This project is a cornerstone in Galan's strategy to become a significant player in the lithium market, with a focus on sustainable and efficient lithium chloride production.

Key Highlights:

  • Pond 1 Construction on Track: The construction of Pond 1 is advancing as scheduled, with a remarkable 65% completion rate. This milestone underscores our commitment to maintaining project timelines and efficiency.

  • Liner Installation Scheduled: The liners, crucial for the pond's functionality, have arrived on-site. Installation is set to begin in late December 2023, marking another significant step towards operational readiness.

  • Pond 1 Filling and Evaporation Process: The filling of Pond 1 is anticipated in Q1, 2024, with the evaporation process slated to commence in the summer. This process is vital for the production of lithium chloride.

  • Preparation for Ponds 2 and 3: Preparatory works, including topsoil removal for Ponds 2 and 3, are underway. This expansion is a testament to our long-term vision for the HMW project.

  • Camp and Infrastructure Development: The new camp and associated infrastructure are progressing well, with all final modules substantially in place. This development is crucial for supporting our growing operations.

  • Glencore Technical Due Diligence: We are pleased to announce that Glencore's technical due diligence process has commenced, reflecting the growing interest and confidence in our project.

Project Phases and Production Targets:

The HMW project, divided into four production phases, is on track to meet its ambitious goals. The initial Phase 1 DFS focuses on producing 5.4ktpa LCE of lithium chloride concentrate by H1, 2025. Subsequent phases include Phase 2 targeting 21ktpa LCE in 2026, Phase 3 aiming for 40ktpa LCE by 2028, and finally, Phase 4 with a goal of 60ktpa LCE by 2030. Phase 4 will uniquely source lithium brine from both HMW and Galan’s other 100% owned project in Argentina, Candelas.

A Sustainable Future:

Galan Lithium Limited is committed to sustainable and responsible lithium production. The HMW project is a significant step in our journey to contribute to the global demand for lithium, essential for the renewable energy sector. We are dedicated to implementing environmentally friendly practices and contributing to a sustainable future.

Galan’s Managing Director, Juan Pablo (JP) Vargas de la Vega, commented:

“I arrived on site this week and am very pleased with the significant progress being made on site and most impressed with the dedicated personnel we have in place. Galan has assembled a cohesive team of highly competent people, with the necessary specialist experience and knowledge to build the ponds and infrastructure required to successfully deliver the first production phase of the HMW project. Pond 1 construction works have been progressing well and in accordance with expectations. We are sharply focused on our objective to commence brine evaporation this summer. We also remain enthusiastic and confident about development of Phase 1 HMW and achieving first production H1, 2025.”
