Nikki Webster celebrates 16 years of teaching Australian kids

Dance @ Nikki Webster 3 mins read

Nikki Webster is a name synonymous with performing arts and this year Nikki is celebrating 16 years of operating her very own studios, celebrating with a free open week on 29 January 2024.

Since 2008, Nikki and her brother Scott have been teaching children from as young as two to dance, sing and perform at their performing arts school. With their leading dance teachers, state-of-the-art studio and focus on offering opportunities for their students, the Dance @ Nikki Webster brand is going from strength to strength.

“It was back in 2008 when we first opened our Sydney studio and I was driven by wanting to share with others what I had learnt as a child star, and of course provide a safe and inspiring place for people to learn about the joy of performing arts,” said Nikki.

It's hard to believe it was 23 years ago that little Nikki stole the hearts of the nation - and the world - at the Sydney 2000 Olympics. Then at 21 years of age, Nikki followed her next dream which was where Dance @ Nikki Webster was born.

“I am a very different person to who I was at 21, a single mum to two beautiful kids, but our studio and partnership with my brother Scott has been wonderful. We are so lucky to do something we love each and every day.

“I am so proud of the business we have created and cannot believe that in 16 years we have helped thousands of children and teens reach their potential,” she continued.

It hasn’t always been easy, running a business through the pandemic and taking on personal challenges has only made the duo more driven to success for another sweet 16 years of Dance @ Nikki Webster.

“The last three years in particular have been very tough for me. Personally, there has been lots behind the scenes that has taken a toll on me and my family, but 2024 is going to be the year where I surrender to moving forward, focusing on my kids, being a mum and proud business owner,” added Nikki.

Living in a time of social media, technology advancements and an array of competitive dance schools, Nikki is all too familiar with how she has had to adapt her business and personal brand along the way.

In 2023, Nikki’s iconic song, ‘Strawberry Kisses’ was placed back on the radar after it became the unofficial anthem of the Matildas' 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup team - resulting in renewed popularity for Nikki.

This year, kids are invited to the Dance @ Nikki Webster celebration Open Week from Monday 29 January to Saturday 3 February where they can enjoy free dance classes all week.

The Open Week timetable offers more than 50 dance classes with styles ranging from tap and jazz to cheerleading, acrobatics, hip hop and RAD ballet. Boys and girls aged between 2 and 18 years of age are invited to trial as many classes as they wish to for free all week at the Sydney and Central Coast studios.

“Every year we thoroughly enjoy opening our doors to showcase our studio, our amazing dance teachers and range of classes. But this year, to celebrate our ‘Sweet 16’ we are opening the doors for an entire week for free,” added Nikki.

“We understand the rising cost of living and so this year we are proudly opening our doors for a week to make sure locals can try an array of classes for free, before they decide what might be the best fit for them,” she continued.

With over 700 students now enrolled at Dance @ Nikki Webster, Nikki says that she is excited to expand her dance school to young children and new families and the Open Week provides an opportunity to experience all the studio has to offer.

“As a Mum myself I have seen firsthand the benefits of dance and performing arts for children’s development and confidence.

“Not only are dance classes a great activity to ensure kids remain active after school, but they are also a great way for children to meet others, enjoy a way of communication beyond language and explore their creative side,” she concluded.

Helping young adults rethink uncertainty reduces anxiety and depression: study

Finding uncertainty hard to tolerate is linked to poorer mental health among young adults, and a short course addressing this has shown promising results. A single 20 to 30-minute online course can help young adults become more tolerant of uncertainty and less anxious and depressed, a study led by UNSW Sydney psychologists has found. And the improved mental health effects were still evident at least a month after completing the course. The study, which was published today in the journal Psychological Medicine, comes at a time when young adults face persistent uncertainty – from the pandemic to global instability to…
