Angie and Dom set to overhaul their hair for Australians living with blood cancer

Leukaemia Foundation / World's Greatest Shave 4 mins read

Well-known Aussies Angie Kent and Domenica Calarco (Dom) are set to undergo a massive hair transformation as the Leukaemia Foundation today reveals them as Ambassadors for this year’s iconic World’s Greatest Shave campaign.

Both Angie and Dom, often known for their gorgeous hairstyles, are teaming up with 3x AHIA Australian Hairdresser of the Year, Dee Parker-Attwood of Wieselmann Salon Melbourne, who will overhaul their hair in a bid to raise critical funds for the 140,000 Australians living with blood cancer.

Blood cancer has impacted Angie and Dom in different, but devastating ways, motivating them to sign up to this years World’s Greatest Shave.

“In July 2023 our world as we knew it changed forever when my father was sadly diagnosed with blood cancer,” said Angie.

“Witnessing his journey through the early stages of treatment has been both challenging and inspiring.

“However, what has truly left me in awe is the tremendous progress in blood cancer research and invaluable support provided by the Leukaemia Foundation during this critical time.”

Whilst Angie’s father has been going through treatment, including a gruelling bone marrow transplant in October, Angie and her family have been staying at the Leukaemia Foundation accommodation centre in Brisbane to ensure they remain close to the hospital.

“The experience of staying at the Leukaemia Foundation accommodation centre has been a stark contrast to the experience my family faced 22 years ago when we lost my Pa to the blood cancer leukaemia.

“Back then, the landscape of blood cancer treatment and support was vastly different.

“It’s clear to see that the generous donations that come from campaigns like World’s Greatest Shave, are helping to fund vital blood cancer research, and enable the Leukaemia Foundation to provide unwavering support for families like ours battling blood cancer.”

Dom is also no stranger to the toll that blood cancer has on a family, having lost her uncle to blood cancer five years ago.

“My beloved uncle sadly passed away from blood cancer making the challenge of signing up to World’s Greatest Shave a very personal one for me,” said Dom.

“Witnessing the impact of blood cancer firsthand, has fuelled my commitment to making a difference in the lives of blood cancer patients, and their loved ones.

“I’ve set a bold fundraising target of $10,000 to support the Leukaemia Foundation’s vital work and I truly believe that every contribution, and every step we take together towards beating blood cancer, is nothing short of beautiful.”

Both Angie and Dom have had their fair share of challenges with Angie gracing our TV screens through her role on Space Invaders, The Bachelorette, I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here, and Dancing with the Stars.

Equally Dom has been fortunate to be a part of some incredible experiences from Married at First Sight, to braving the wild in I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here.

With their hairstyles documented through social and entertainment media over the years, this new transformation will no doubt garner huge interest from fans, the public, and media alike.

To add glamour to the makeover, celebrity hair stylist Dee Parker-Attwood, famous for taking Celeste Barber blonde, will be pushing the boundaries with her creative and bold styles that she’s specifically curated for Angie and Dom.

“I’m incredibly excited to be a Hair Ambassador for this year’s World’s Greatest Shave and work with the beautiful Angie and Dom to transform their hair,” said Dee.

“I will be coordinating with each of them to individually curate the hottest on-trend hairstyle of their choice, and I can’t wait to see what we come up with for their big reveal moment.”

Angie and Dom will both adhere to the World’s Greatest Shave primary message which is to shave, cut, or colour your hair to raise vital funds for blood cancer. But what style or combination they undergo, won’t be revealed until March during World’s Greatest Shave week.

Every single strand of hair that Australians like Angie and Dom change this World’s Greatest Shave, whether they chose to shave, cut, or colour, is going to help champion change for the 53 Australians diagnosed with blood cancer today.

Funds raised through the campaign help to make significant strides into finding better and more targeted treatment options for Australians living with blood cancer, with the hope of one day finding a cure.

Around 20,000 people sign up to participate in World’s Greatest Shave each year, and more than two million Australians have sacrificed their hair, or donated to someone who has over the past 25 years.

To donate to either Angie or Dom’s World’s Greatest Shave campaign, please visit worldsgreatestshave.com, click donate, and search for Angie Kent or Domenica Calarco. Every single dollar helps Australians living with blood cancer.

National genomic screening program would save thousands of Australians from preventable cancer and heart disease

Leadinggenomic health experts from Monash University are calling for urgent government funding to progress the development of a national preventive genomic testing program that would save thousands of Australians from conditions like cancer and heart disease. This call to action follows a Monash-led nationwide pilot study recently completed, offering free genomic screening to 10,000 Australians aged 18 to 40. The pilot tested for 10 medically actionable genes linked to hereditary breast and ovarian cancer, Lynch syndrome, and familial hypercholesterolaemia.
