Come walk or jog with us in Western Sydney. We are in this together!

Dementia Australia 2 mins read

The 2024 Western Sydney Memory Walk & Jog is nearly here with the event taking place on Sunday 10 March at Tench Reserve, Penrith.

Dementia Australia’s largest fundraising event hopes to attract thousands of people across Australia to help raise more than $2 million in support of people living with dementia. Funds raised at our upcoming event in Western Sydney will help advance the work of Dementia Australia which delivers invaluable support, education and resources for people living with dementia, their families and carers.

Memory Walk & Jog is about being part of the community and feeling supported. We are in this together, which is why participants can walk, jog or run and select from a 2km walk, an 8km walk/jog, or the 8km timed run.

Registrations for the Western Sydney Memory Walk & Jog are still open and we’d love to see as many people as possible walking, jogging or running at Tench Reserve. It’s a great day out, raising money and awareness for such an important cause.

Dementia Australia spokespeople are available for media stories. Please contact Ash Blakemore, Senior Media & Communications Advisor, 0448 170 672, ash.blakemore@dementia.org.au.

Sign-up to walk, jog or run or join in as a Volunteer at a Memory Walk & Jog event at www.memorywalk.com.au. Share your Memory Walk & Jog experience on your socials and Donate today to support people living with dementia across Australia.

RACGP: Look after your mental health this holiday season

The Royal Australian College of GPs (RACGP) has urged Australians to look after themselves and their loved ones this holiday season. College President, Dr Michael Wright, said that reaching out and helping others can make all the difference. “The holiday season can be a challenging time for many Australians,” he said. “Many of us can have family and relationship pressures, financial pressures may become more obvious, and isolation and loneliness can be at their worst this time of year too. So, during this festive season please try to look after yourself and the people in your life. It can be…

What can your poo reveal about your heart health?

Human and microbial proteins found in poo could help doctors detect a long-term risk of deadly cardiovascular conditions in otherwise healthy patients, avoiding the need for costly and invasive diagnostic procedures. A new study from Monash University published today has linked the presence of certain faecal proteins to conditions like heart failure, and found they can be used as an early indicator of risk and outcomes. This is a breakthrough in the early prevention and diagnosis of conditions that could otherwise go hidden until they become fatal. Dr Francine Marques, a Monash Professor in the School of Biological Sciences and…
