Mardi Gras celebrations kick off with flag raising ceremony

WHAT:           To officially mark the start of Mardi Gras celebrations, the Progress Pride flag will be raised at a ceremony at Sydney Town Hall.

 

In celebration of the Mardi Gras 2024 theme – Our Future – leading members of the LGBTIQA+ communities will come together for the ceremony.

 

2024 marks the 46th anniversary of Sydney Mardi Gras, which was born out of political action in the LGBTQIA+ communities and continues to highlight important issues and lobby for change. 

 

 

 

WHEN:           TODAY, Friday 16 February

 

 

 

TIMES:           5-6pm – indoor reception

                        6-6.30pm – outdoor flag raising and photo opportunities     

 

 

           

WHERE:         Centennial Hall and front steps, Sydney Town Hall

 

 

 

WHO:             Lord Mayor Clover Moore will be joined by City of Sydney councillors and

representatives of Sydney Mardi Gras and the Sydney LGBTQIA+ community.

Historic steam locomotives and machinery of all shapes and sizes will come to life this weekend at the NSW Rail Museum during the award-winning Thirlmere Festival of Steam.
