FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Campaign Launch: #5by25 – A Call for Impact Investing in Australian Superannuation Funds

Wealth of Nations Impact Asset Management 2 mins read

The #5by25 campaign seeks to address the growing social and environmental challenges we face domestically, as highlighted in the Impact Investing Taskforce Expert Panel's Update and Review of Final Report (Dec 2022), which noted that 13.4% of Australians live below the poverty line, or abroad. With government resources stretched thin, the campaign emphasizes the critical importance of attracting private capital to boost public investment and drive innovation.

By allocating 5% of superannuation funds to impact investments, the campaign aims to make approximately $175 billion available for investment in projects that deliver measurable social and environmental benefits, without compromising the financial returns for fund members. This initiative aligns with The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), urging global action to address pressing issues.

The campaign will run a petition on change.org until November 1, followed by an e-petition with the Australian Government House of Representatives. The goal is to gather widespread support and present the petition to the House for a response.

"We believe that impact investing can be a powerful tool to address the social and environmental challenges we face at home and abroad," said Campaign Spokesperson, Uwe Fuehrer], the campaign's initiator. "Through the #5by25 campaign, we aim to mobilize a meaningful portion of Australia's superannuation assets to create a more sustainable and equitable future for all."

The campaign calls on all Australians to join the movement and sign the petition, driving the change for a better world worth retiring into. For more information and to support the #5by25 campaign, visit https://www.change.org/5by25campaign.

Australians for Affordable Energy

Coalition must provide clear answers on nuclear policy

The Coalition must provide immediate and detailed answers about its nuclear energy policy after Shadow Treasurer Angus Taylor failed to confirm even basic costs. Australians for Affordable Energy is calling for clearer policy and direct answers from the Coalition, with households deserving transparency on a policy that could reshape the nation’s energy mix and increase household bills. “The continued failure to provide clear details on the costs, timelines and locations of the proposed nuclear rollout is unacceptable,” AFAE spokesperson Jo Dodds said. “Australians are already doing it tough with soaring power prices and cost-of-living pressures. They deserve to know how…
