Over the weekend, the much loved Ronald McDonald House Charities South East Queensland (RMHC SEQ) Race Day returned to the Gold Coast Turf Club, bringing together more than 500 guests for a good cause.

The theme of ‘One Sunny Race Day’ brought Palm Springs and pastels right to the shores of the Gold Coast with a day of sensational sips, mouth-watering morsels, live auctions and panoramic views of the race track.

Over $125,000 was raised in support of RMHC SEQ and will go directly towards providing essential accommodation and support programs for families with ill or injured children.

Award-winning newsreader, mentor and podcast host, Katrina Blowers said she was honoured to be the MC for the event.

“It was a huge honour to MC such an incredible event and help raise money for a truly worthwhile cause.”

“From the outfits, to the auction items – it was a day everyone will remember for a long time,” she said.

Gold Coast Turf Club Board Director, One Sunny Race Day Committee Member and RMHC SEQ volunteer, Tara Hastings, said the event was a great success.

“The Gold Coast Turf Club is extremely proud to have worked alongside RMHC SEQ to deliver such a spectacular event.”

“It was so special seeing everyone dig deep for a worthy cause. I cannot wait to see what we can achieve next year,” she said.

RMHC SEQ has accommodation and Family Rooms at Herston, South Brisbane, the Queensland Children’s Hospital and the Gold Coast University Hospital.

Each year, over 3,500 families stay at the Ronald McDonald Houses in South East Queensland, and more than 10,000 families take a break in the Family Rooms while visiting the hospital for their child’s treatment.

RMHC SEQ Chief Executive Officer, Emma Thompson said it was great to see so many people come together to help raise essential funds for families in need.

“Thank you to the Gold Coast Turf Club, One Sunny Race Day committee, sponsors, prize donors and special guests, for their dedication in making the event one to remember.”

“RMHC SEQ relies on the financial support of the entire community to help us support the thousands of families that walk through our doors each year.”

“Without these generous contributions, we would be unable to keep our doors open to families in need 365 days a year,” she said.

The event was made possible through the generous support from a variety of sponsors and prize donors across the South East.

Oxfam reaction to the Rio de Janeiro G20 Ministerial Declaration on International Tax Cooperation: “this is serious global progress”

Responding to the Rio de Janeiro G20 Ministerial Declaration on International Tax Cooperation published today, Oxfam International’s Tax Policy Lead Susana Ruiz, said: "This is serious global progress —for the first time in history, the world’s largest economies have agreed to cooperate to tax the ultra-rich. Finally, the richest people are being told they can't game the tax system or avoid paying their fair share. "Governments have for too long been complicit in helping the ultra-rich pay little or zero tax. Massive fortunes afford the world’s ultra-rich outsized influence and power, which they wield to shield, stash and supersize their wealth,…
