Winner, 8-12 year old categorynOrson Ferris, 'Man with His Parrott'

The City of Sydney wants some of our youngest artists to show off their creative side in this year’s Little Sydney Lives photography competition.

Children aged between 5 and 12 are invited to send in their best photographs of Sydney, taken in the past 12 months. There’s no set theme so young shutterbugs being can let their imaginations run wild.

The winner and runner up will both receive an E-M10 Mark IV Camera with 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 EZ Lens, worth around $1,300.

Hundreds of young photographers enter each year. The 20 shortlisted finalists will have their images enlarged and exhibited at Customs House Library in Circular Quay from 1 to 25 August.

“The Little Sydney Lives competition is one of my favourite events as entrants always give us such a unique perspective on life in our fabulous city,” Lord Mayor, Clover Moore AO said.

“Now in its 14th year, this fantastic competition is a real delight. I’m often left awestruck at the talent our junior photographers possess.

“From the simple to the complex, these images are such an inspiration for the people who see them, irrespective of their age.”

The winner and runner up of Little Sydney Lives will be announced at the opening event on 1 August.

Pina Macedone from Erskineville and Orson Ferris from Newtown were last year’s winners with their images Charlotte of The Inner West and Man With His Parrot.

Orson shared the spoils with his dad, Sam Ferris, who won the main award for the adult Australian Life photography exhibition which was announced at the same time.

Little Sydney Lives is part of the City of Sydney’s year-round Art & About program of events and temporary art projects in unusual spaces throughout the city.

Little Sydney Lives partner OM systems donated prizes for the competition.

Entries for the competition close at 11:59pm on Sunday 21 April.
