Bibra lake, 03/03/2024 - Dr Wahab is an esteemed member of Ahmadiyya Muslim community Perth and a dedicated physician at Armadale Health Service who's father had an assassination attempt in Toba Tek Singh, Pakistan.
The assailants shot Dr Wahab's father at close range, with the first shot hitting his leg and breaking both lower leg bones, while the remaining 5 shots narrowly missed him.
Dr Wahab's father was rushed to the nearest tertiary hospital 'District Headquarters Hospital Toba Tek Singh' where his received severely compromised medical attention and was discharged for fear of backlash from local clerics. This resulted in Dr Wahab's father developing a severe complication requiring life-saving surgeries.
After the news of the attack, Dr Wahab had to rush to Pakistan and is very thankful that his father is in stable condition. Dr Wahab became emotional recounting how his father has been receiving ongoing threats to his life for years now solely for his beliefs noting "this is the reason myself and all my sibling, two of whom are also doctors in Australia and US, had to move overseas". Further, Dr Wahab expressed his gratitude saying "I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Armadale Health Service for their unwavering support during these challenging times. I feel truly blessed to be in a tolerant and peaceful country like Australia that I now call home, where the people are so compassionate and tolerate and the system so fair."
Ahmadiyya Muslims encounter harsh persecution in Pakistan due to apartheid like discriminatory laws which severely restrict religious freedoms and subject Ahmadis to violence and marginalisation. As of result of this, desecration of Ahmadiyya Mosques has become a norm in Pakistan. Sadly, similar injustices occur in other Muslim-majority nations like Algeria, where many members of the Ahmadiyya community are currently imprisoned simply for their religious beliefs. This ongoing persecution highlights the urgent need for global attention and advocacy to protect the rights and safety of Ahmadiyya Muslims and other vulnerably communities worldwide.
