***MEDIA ALERT*** Doorstop – GP campaign launch to save general practice care in South Australia

Royal Australian College of GPs < 1 mins read

DOORSTOP: GP campaign launch to save general practice care in South Australia, Monday 18 March, 10:30am ACST

What: GPs will launch a campaign to stop the South Australian Government’s Patient Tax, which will force practices to hike patient out-of-pocket fees or close their doors.

The payroll tax grab was triggered by a new interpretation of payroll tax law by Revenue SA regarding independent GPs. General practices already pay payroll tax on their employees, including receptionists, GPs in training and nurses. However, it has never applied to GPs because most doctors are not employees, they work under independent agreements.

When: Monday 18 March, 10:30am ACST.

Where: Elizabeth Family Health Care (GP Plus building), 16 Playford Blvd, Elizabeth.

Speaker: RACGP South Australia Chair Dr Sian Goodson.

National genomic screening program would save thousands of Australians from preventable cancer and heart disease

Leadinggenomic health experts from Monash University are calling for urgent government funding to progress the development of a national preventive genomic testing program that would save thousands of Australians from conditions like cancer and heart disease. This call to action follows a Monash-led nationwide pilot study recently completed, offering free genomic screening to 10,000 Australians aged 18 to 40. The pilot tested for 10 medically actionable genes linked to hereditary breast and ovarian cancer, Lynch syndrome, and familial hypercholesterolaemia. The findings are published today in the inaugural edition of the new academic journal Nature Health. The pilot study was led…
