WHAT: Liverpool West Public School is reopening after the completion of remediation works to remove contaminated mulch.

Students and staff at Liverpool West Public School will be welcomed back to their classrooms on Monday, 11 March 2024 after full clearance was received from the independent hygienist. 

This follows extensive work undertaken over the past few weeks to remove contaminated mulch at the school and fully remediate the site. 

Students have been able to continue their learning at Gulyangarri Public School during this time. 

More than 2,500 tonnes of potentially contaminated material has been removed under the guidance of the hygienist in line with Work Health & Safety legislation. 

All areas of concern based on the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) investigation have been remediated with all mulch now removed. 

The main classrooms and teaching areas of the school will return to usual operations. 

Reinstatement of landscaping materials will continue in the coming weeks and will not impact school operations.

State’s highest court rules for common sense

The NSW Court of Appeal’s recent ruling that NSW parliamentary inquiries have no valid power to compel witnesses to appear before them to give evidence is a victory for common sense, says the Public Service Association. The court ruling means outdated 124-year-old laws recently relied upon in an attempt to compel some of the Premier’s staff to appear before a parliamentary committee have now been struck down. CADIA TO PAY MORE THAN $300,000 FOR RURAL DUST MONITORING NETWORK

The NSW Environment Protection Authority has entered into a legally binding Enforceable Undertaking (EU) with Cadia Holdings Pty Ltd, owners and operators of the Cadia Gold Mine, worth over $320,000. The EU will see Cadia provide $307,500 to support the construction of five new permanent dust monitoring stations to boost the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water’s Rural Dust Monitoring Network.
