Over 1,000 Australians have signed the Declaration of Biological Truth Australia to express their concern about the impact of gender ideology on Australian society. Signatories include politicians, doctors, parents, grandparents, teachers, and hundreds of concerned citizens.
The Declaration has gained attention following the release of the final UK Cass Review into gender affirming treatment of children which found ….
“For most young people, a medical pathway will not be the best way to manage their gender-related distress.”
Research by Compass Polling in October 2023 revealed that 74% of Australians oppose the use of irreversible puberty blockers or surgery on children under 18. However, 54% of Declaration signatories are private where their name doesn’t show. This indicates that while most Australians disagree with current practice, they fear speaking out publicly due to activist abuse, employer issues or peer pressure.
Phil Dye, a past educator in the School of Medical Sciences at UNSW and the founder of the Declaration said:
“Being inclusive doesn’t mean abandoning limits. There are trans folk who don’t preach to kids and don’t intrude on women’s spaces. The LGBTQA+ movement has become dominated by trans issues. Most Australians believe it’s gone too far.” Dye said.
In Australia, children are guided down the medical pathway by institutions like the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne or Maple Leaf House in Newcastle. These institutions prescribe puberty blockers and hormones to children as young as 10 years old.
Compared to countries like Finland, Sweden, The UK, France and Denmark, Australia has become an outlier in its practice of treating children with gender distress. The UK has now banned puberty blockers & cross sex hormones for under 18’s except in clinical trials.
In its January statement, the United Nations said their transgender health guideline would not cover children and adolescents because the evidence base was too weak.
