From housing crisis to eco-crisis: Why Australia’s population growth is unsustainable

 

Hosted by Sustainable Population Australia

Venue: Regent Room, Box Factory, 59 Regent Street South, Adelaide

 

Keynote speaker:  Leith van Onselen, Chief Economist and co-founder of MacroBusiness, who writes as the Unconventional Economist. He will speak on “Australia’s immigration and the everything shortage”.

 

Supporting speaker: Dr Jane O’Sullivan, co-author of “The Housing Crisis is a Population Crisis”.  She will speak on “Albanese’s immigration overhaul: No relief in sight despite ‘sustainable immigration’ pledge.” 

 

Chair: Newly elected SPA national president Peter Strachan. He will talk about SPA’s new campaign ‘Say NO to Big Australia!’  that includes its Position Statement which has amassed nearly 3000 signatures.

 

The public meeting is free and includes afternoon tea at 3.30pm.

New migrant worker protections to help smash workplace exploitation

Unions NSW has declared new safeguards for migrant workers on temporary visas as a huge victory in the fight against workplace exploitation after years of campaigning for the changes. This week, the federal government’s two-year trial of a ‘workplace justice visa’ has officially gone live meaning exploited temporary migrant workers can now stay in Australia while they seek advice and take action against their unethical employers. A ‘non-discretionary protection against visa cancellation’ will also be trialed, guaranteeing that a worker’s visa will not be cancelled if they want to hold their exploitative employer to account but have breached their conditions…

Monash Expert: Senior government ministers retiring and cabinet reshuffle

Two senior members of the government, Linda Burney, the Minister for Indigenous Australians and Skills and Training Minister Brendan O'Connor, have announced their plans to retire at the end of this term of government.
