MEDIA INVITATION: TODAY - preview of the International Cake Show Australia at 11am at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre

 

From this Friday April 12 to Sunday 14, Brisbane will be home to the world’s leading edible cake artists and decorators for the 2024 International Cake Show Australia! There’ll be a spooky Sugar House of Horror, Barbie Cakes, Australian and International Cake Artist Superstars, Life-Sized Bumblebee Transformer, Cookie Titans, Floriade Market, a Haute Couture Wedding Cake Challenge set by star wedding dress designer George Wu, and record entries! It’s Australia's huge cake and cookie decorating, baking and sugar art show; think edible art gallery meets Willy Wonka’s famous factory, a food festival, culinary college and shoppers paradise all in one! 

 

Media are invited to a preview TODAY, THURSDAY at 11am.

Vision, colour and interviews available include:

  • A 3m High Bumble Bee Transformer Cake – with the artist Dan Greensill
  • The Sugar House of Horror - an international cake artist collaboration - absolutely amazing, click on the QR code attached to see a video of works and who is involved.
  • 3m x 3m Rainforest Exhibit – from the Battle of the Sugar Giants. Cheryl Moore creator. 
  • Bargie Cakes – created by cake artist Verusca Walker, including the Barbie Doll in the Box Cake, The Barbie Van, and Barbie’s Kitchen Aid – all as cakes!
  • Haute Couture Marquee - 10 Australasian Wedding Cake Designer's – all huge cakes. 
  • Floriade Market - 6m x 6m feature set up like a french flower market, part of another global sugar collaboration - Cake Artists from around the world have contributed sugar, wafer paper and other types of edible flowers. One flower alone is 70cm tall! 
  • The official judging will be taking place on Thursday.
  • Show organiser Joan McDermott will be available, as well as other cake artists, plus international cake artist superstar Rosie Dummer from the UK, who famously made a life sized Paddington Bear cake for the former Queen.

PLEASE MEET at the main entry foyer at BCEC, Cnr of Glenelg and Merivale. Those attending will need to wear a high viz vest which will be provided.
