Reclink Community Cup 2024

The highly anticipated Reclink Community Cup is set to kick off once again, bringing together the vibrant Melbourne music scene and the spirited community radio industry for a day of grassroots football and live music. Scheduled for June 16, this iconic event, now in its 31st year, promises to be a celebration for all, while raising vital funds to support Reclink Australia's mission of providing sport and recreation programs for communities facing disadvantage to improve their physical health, mental health and social connections.

The Reclink Community Cup has become a beloved fixture on the Melbourne music calendar. Since its inception, the event has garnered support from renowned local music industry personalities such as Paul Kelly, Tim Rogers and Dan Sultan, who have graciously lent their time and talent to champion this inaugural event. The “Comm Cup” is a reminder of what makes our Australian camaraderie unique and how it naturally brings together the collective, no matter the situation of individuals in the community.

The heart of the event lies in the friendly rivalry between the Rockdogs (musicians) and the Megahertz (Triple R 102.7FM & PBS 106.7FM), as they vie for footy supremacy in a match brimming with passion and intensity. Over the years, the Community Cup has evolved into much more than a football match; it's a testament to the power of community spirit and solidarity.

With humble beginnings in 1993, the Melbourne event now attracts over 10,000 attendees annually and raises more than $200,000 for Reclink Australia, demonstrating the unwavering support and commitment of the community towards uplifting those in need.

The event’s remarkable success story has reached other key cities in Australia, starting with Sydney in 2012 and expanding to Adelaide and Fremantle in 2015. Hobart and Brisbane joined in 2016, with Canberra following suit in 2017. With each new city that joins the ranks, the event's purpose grows exponentially and unites Australians from all walks of life in a shared celebration of music, media, and community spirit.

But the impact of the Reclink Community Cup extends far beyond the football field. Through Reclink Australia’s structured sport and recreation programs, individuals facing mental illness, family violence, homelessness, social isolation, and various other challenges find moments of joy, human connection, and a sense of purpose. These programs not only promote physical and mental well-being but also foster greater social inclusion, empowering participants to lead fulfilling lives.

"We are thrilled to announce the return of the Reclink Community Cup, a cherished tradition that embodies the spirit of unity," said Dave Wells, CEO at Reclink Australia. "We invite everyone to join us on June 16 for a day of camaraderie, music, and football, while supporting a cause that truly makes a difference in the lives of so many Australians."

“Howden is thrilled to get behind this iconic event and extend our support to Reclink Community Cup matches right across Australia. Scoreboard aside, by coming together and supporting this event, the real winner will be raising funds to help Reclink deliver sports and recreation programs to thousands of participants who are doing things tough,” said Matt Bacon, Howden Pacific Chief Executive Officer.
