More Greek history in the making….

Ahead of June 5 and one of the biggest Greek concerts ever to be staged at QPAC in AXION ESTI AND MASTERWORKS celebrating the internationally acclaimed works of Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis and Nobel Prize-winning poet Odysseas Elytis, MEDIA ARE INVITED TO ATTEND an exclusive panel discussion and performance by internationally acclaimed artist Dimitris Basis ….. THIS TUESDAY MAY 21 at 11.45am at The Cremorne Theatre, QPAC.

The panel will preview this extraordinary collaboration and the legendary fusion of music and poetry now linked to the Greek national identity, and how it translates here in Australia and South East Queensland.

The concert has important firsts, with tomorrow’s preview the only opportunity to film vision and interviews before June 5:

  • The concert will host the largest number of Greek voices ever on a QPAC stage. Joined by QPAC’s Chamber Choir, three Greek Community Choirs make up the 90-voice chorus.
  • During the event 91-year-old Apostolos Bellas and seven-year-old Milana Sotiris will make their Concert Hall debuts as part of their respective Greek community choirs. Mr Bellas will be at the preview on Tuesday along with fellow choristers, Choir Master Timothy Sherlock, Assistant Choir Master Christina Xydi-Lignos and members of the Greek community and arts sector.
  • The preview will feature a performance by renowned international vocalist Dimitris Basis.
  • Honouring the 100th birthday of Mikis Theodorakis this year, this is the first time the work has been performed at such scale in Australia. Mikis is legendary composer of Zorba’s Dance and is hailed as Greece’s most celebrated composer.
  • Following the performance, the panel will be moderated by ABC CLASSIC’s Eadric Le Brocq and includes Dimitris Basis, Timothy Sherlock, Tom Drakopoulos, Emily Tam, and the Reverend Father Dimitri Tsakas.
