FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Perth, [07/05/2024] – Imam Syed Wadood Janud of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community (AMC) Perth will hold a press conference today at 12pm from Perth's biggest Mosque, Nasir Mosque. This will not only provide clarity on the true meaning of Jihad in Islam but will also promote calm and trust in the broader community.

As more reports have surfaced, the community is extremely concerned to find out the rather confronting text messages of the perpetrator that have surfaced in which Islamic terminology like "Jihad" and "Allah" is mentioned. The Muslim community would like to address this misinterpreted and misguided use of Islamic terminology, something that can have huge implications in terms of wider public's perception of a religion followed by roughly a million Australians.

Imam Syed Wadood Janud of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Perth noted "we unequivocally denounce any insinuations to associate this man's actions with the teachings of Islam. We stand firm in our belief that Islam promotes peace, tolerance, and compassion towards all of humanity. Our very motto is Love for all, Hatred for none."

He further urged everyone to come together in solidarity against violence and extremism, and to foster understanding and mutual respect among all members of society.

All members of the media and the broader community are invited to join in this important dialogue as the Muslim community attempt to provide clarity on the usage of Islamic terminology reportedly used by the perpetrator in his private text messages/social media posts and to put into perspective the actions of the perpetrator while addressing any and all concerns of the public.

Date: 07/05/2024
