QUEENSLAND LOVES CIRQUE DU SOLEIL – 7 more shows added and a Queenslander stars in LUZIA!

Cirque du Soleil 3 mins read
Queenslander Helena Merten is one of the stars of LUZIA by Cirque du Soleil with another 7 shows just announced today for the Queensland season

Another week of shows has been added to LUZIA in Brisbane as the love affair continues, and Cirque du Soleil marks 25 years of bringing the Grand Chapiteau Down Under

With four months until opening night in Brisbane and in response to overwhelming demand, Cirque du Soleil is thrilled to announce tickets on sale for an additional 7 shows of its critically acclaimed production, LUZIAImages and filmed vision HERE

“Queensland has always been a huge fanbase for Cirque du Soleil, ever since our first show in Australia, Saltimbanco, opened here in 1999. In our 2024 – our 25th anniversary year in Australia - the love affair continues, and we are so excited to announce another full week of shows,” said Yannick Spierkel, LUZIA Senior Tour Director.

LUZIA by Cirque du Soleil opens in Brisbane on September July 25th under the iconic Big Top next to the Royal Queensland Golf Club, off Curtin Ave East. The newly announced, extra performances from November 6 to 11, promise to deliver an unforgettable experience for both first time and seasoned Cirque du Soleil devotees.

⭐⭐ What’s more, one of the lead artists in LUZIA is Queensland’s own Helena Merten who grew up on the Gold Coast and told of her excitement about returning to her home state for LUZIA's national tour, "I’ve dreamt of this since I was seven years old when I saw my first Cirque du Soleil show QUIDAM in Brisbane. Now in returning home to Queensland, to where it all began, and I am beyond excited to perform in front of my hometown crowd."

Written and directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca, LUZIA invites people to an imaginary Mexico, like in a waking dream, where light (“luz” in Spanish) quenches the spirit, and rain (“lluvia”) soothes the soul. In a series of grand visual surprises and breathtaking acrobatic performances, LUZIA will take Queensland audiences on a surrealistic journey through a vibrant world filled with wonders, playfulness and striking artistry. Smoothly passing from an old movie set to the ocean, to a smoky dance hall or an arid desert, LUZIA cleverly brings to the stage multiple places, faces and sounds of Mexico taken from both tradition and modernity. Rich in awe-inspiring moments, LUZIA enchants by incorporating rain into acrobatic and artistic scenes – a first for a Cirque du Soleil touring production.

“This is one not to miss it’s absolutely brilliant...probably the best ever.”  Richard Wilkins.

“I loved every second of it, best show ever.”  Kate Ceberano.

ABOUT THE SHOW:

With mesmerising and refreshing acrobatic performances, LUZIA brings traditional and contemporary circus disciplines to a whole new level. Cyr Wheel artists perform the unprecedented feat of rolling and spinning under the rain, while an aerialist suspended from a Trapeze flies and twirls through pouring showers. Hoop Diving is taken onto gigantic treadmills, expanding exponentially the speed and amount of daring leaps executed. Jaw-dropping highlights include a male contortionist skilfully twisting his body in the world’s most unimaginable positions, a powerful Aerial Straps specialist defying the laws of gravity at the centre of a cenote (natural sinkhole), a juggler tossing seven pins at breakneck speed, and two football freestylers deftly mixing street dance with mind-blowing ball manipulation.
