HEARTFULNESS CELEBRATES THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA WITH EVENTS ACROSS AUSTRALIA

Throughout the next month, to celebrate International Day of Yoga, 21 June, Heartfulness Institute is offering a series of events to the Australian public to experience the physical and mental health benefits of yoga.

In addition, many online activities from yoga experts around the world are available on our Yoga4Unity YouTube channel, free of charge, for the whole month.

Over 1 billion people worldwide currently suffer from a mental condition, mostly with either anxiety or depression (WEF), and in Australia, the National Study of Mental Health and Well-being found that an estimated 1 in 5 (21.4%) Australians aged 16–85 experienced a mental disorder in the previous 12 months (ABS 2022).

To offer simple wellness techniques to those who are struggling, Heartfulness Institute is partnering with a number of other yoga organizations, community groups, and individuals to provide an experience of the physical and mental practices of yoga. There will also be stalls and activities for all the family, and simple vegetarian food. No prior experience is required, and the activities will be suitable for beginners.

Heartfulness is a 100-year-old tradition of simple heart-based practices, enabling everyone to enjoy and experience well-being (www.heartfulness.org). Heartfulness Institute also provides a platform for all yoga and meditation organizations to join together to offer services to the community (https://www.yoga4unity.com). In March 2024 we held an international event at our headquarters, Kanha Shanti Vanam, India, where 100,000 people from over 300 organizations came together for dialogue and mutual projects. We are also hosting an event at UNESCO Paris from 15 to 21 June 2024 (https://www.unesco.org/en/articles/yoga-unity ) to celebrate International Day of Yoga. Our President, Mr. Kamlesh D. Patel, will be a keynote speaker at the UN Headquarters in New York on International Day of Yoga 2024.

Editor of Heartfulness Magazine, and regional Victorian certified trainer, Dr. Elizabeth Denley, says, “Heartfulness offers a set of simple practices that will transform your life. They help you to manage your emotions, and create a calm, contented mind with the courage and clarity to make wise decisions. They bring inner happiness and joy that radiates to everyone else around you. There is so much support from the personal coaches and resources to help you learn the practices. There are no dogmas or beliefs required. All you have to do is try it!”

Wendy Chan, federal government department wellness coordinator based in Sydney, says, “I was speechless, blown away by how good the Heartfulness session was. The trainer so masterfully controlled the pace, captured everyone’s attention, and helped us relax our bodies. We learned many yoga stretches, really simple moves we can do between meetings on a chair. We learned how yoga and meditation connect our mind, the neurons in our brain, our nervous system, etc., so that when everything is connected, the mind become a superhighway – clear and fast. I can definitely feel the change before and after. I came out of the session feeling refreshed and clear. The session was so smooth, the trainer’s directions so gentle and firm, clear and profound at the same time, and we just slid into meditation. One colleague summed it up best: it was really an hour of power.”
