Hobart, Tasmania (June 7th 2024) – Hobart-based software developer Procreate has been awarded an Apple Design Award for Innovation on June 7 (AEST) for their best-selling animation app, Procreate Dreams. This is the third Apple Design Award for the Procreate team.

  • In the App Store’s 15-year history, this is the first time an Australian developer has won the prestigious award three times.

  • The Apple Design Awards (ADA) celebrate excellence in innovation, design and technical achievement for applications developed for Apple products. They are one of the most sought-after awards in the tech industry.

  • There are over 1.8 million apps currently available on the App Store.

  • Procreate Dreams is an animation app for iPad with an intuitive design that makes animation approachable to everyone. Launched in November 2023, it is currently the #1 best-selling app in the Photo & Video category on the App Store.

  • The Innovation category awards software that “provides a state-of-the-art experience through novel use of Apple technologies that set them apart in their genre.”
  • Procreate Dreams was also a finalist for the Apple Design Award for Interaction.

  • Procreate was founded in 2008 by James and Alanna Cuda with just a team of three in a house in Old Beach. Now operating from its North Hobart offices with around 80 employees, the company expects to relocate to 2 Collins St in 2025, plans for which were approved by Hobart City Council earlier this year.

  • The company was awarded their first ADA in 2013 for their illustration app, Procreate (Outstanding Design and Innovation), and a second ADA in 2022 for Inclusivity.

  • Procreate CEO James Cuda recently featured in Apple’s May 7 Let Loose event, which had a peak of more than 400k livestream viewers and has had 6.5 million views overall. To appear as part of an Apple keynote announcement event is an honour rarely extended to anyone outside of Apple.
