Queensland’s bold $26bn step brings state closer to cleaner future, stronger industry

The Queensland Government’s huge investment in major clean energy projects marks a significant leap towards a cleaner, thriving future for the Sunshine State. The $26 billion investment is another sign of Australia taking necessary action to clean up our energy grid and cut climate pollution this decade.

Climate Council Head of Policy and Advocacy, Dr Jennifer Rayner, said: “Queensland is showing the kind of leadership Australia needs to power our communities with cleaner, cheaper energy, and keep cutting climate pollution.

“A bigger, cleaner grid is the foundation for clean manufacturing, critical minerals mining and other emerging industries across Queensland, so this investment will help unlock more jobs in the regions and right across the state.

“In this make-or-break decade to slash climate pollution, we need to see all governments accelerating delivery of a bigger, cleaner grid and more zero emissions industries. Queensland has just pulled ahead in the states’ race to the top on climate action; let’s see other jurisdictions stepping up to meet and beat it.”

Groundbreaking trial is a critical step towards electrifying all households

A groundbreaking pilot to electrify 500 homes in the Illawarra region of NSW was announced today after a two-year campaign led by the local community. Power Together

Keeping Coal Kills Household Solar Benefits, Puts Vulnerable Queenslanders at Risk and Creates Uncertainty for Investment.

Tuesday 15 October 2024 With polluting coal-fired power stations being phased out across the globe, Aussie households are increasingly turning to renewables like rooftop solar for reliable, clean and affordable electricity to power their homes. Queensland leads the nation in the uptake of household solar. Average power bills in Queensland would have been $400 more expensive in 2023 without rooftop solar and large-scale renewable energy providing affordable energy to the grid, and if new renewable energy projects are delayed from coming online, wholesale electricity prices could be 36% higher. Queensland industries are also investing heavily in renewable energy to power…
