Music is the language of love, and we all know that a really great playlist can help to set the right mood.
Well, when the mood takes you, there are certain songs that are significantly more effective for … ahem… getting things going!
With this in mind, Lovehoney decided to find out which songs are the most popular for setting a sexy mood by searching Spotify’s steamiest playlists and finding which saucy songs appear most often. The list includes timeless classics and contemporary hits, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
To determine the ultimate sex playlist, 1,306 songs were analysed across Spotify’s top 20 playlists that include the words ‘sex’ or ‘sexy’ and from there, the songs were analysed using Spotify’s API tool which offers data like BPM for each song.
Across the original 1,306 songs, the average BPM was 115.8, which is around the same speed as Ariana Grande’s ‘Dangerous Woman’, as well as Rihanna’s, ‘Woo’.

We decided to find out which songs are the most popular for setting a sexy mood by searching Spotify’s steamiest playlists and finding which saucy songs appear most often.
We’ve analysed 1,306 songs across Spotify’s top 20 playlists that include the words ‘sex’ or ‘sexy’, to determine the ultimate sex playlist. We’ve also revealed the most featured artists, as well as analysed the beats per minute, to determine the best songs depending on the mood you’re in. Based on the findings across the original 1,340 songs, the average BPM was 115.8, giving us a range of 118-114 BPM that can be considered ideal for a sensual song.
From then a playlist was created and analysed using the Spotify API tool, Sort Your Music which offers data like BPM, danceability levels, and more for each song.
Sort Your Music lets you sort your playlist based on a number of Spotify's song attributes including:
· Beats Per Minute (BPM) - The tempo of the song.
· Energy - The energy of a song - the higher the value, the more energetic the song
· Danceability - The higher the value, the easier it is to dance to this song.
· Loudness - The higher the value, the louder the song.
· Valence - The higher the value, the more positive mood for the song.
· Acoustic - The higher the value the more acoustic the song is.
