Revealed: These are the sexiest songs, according to Spotify!

Music is the language of love, and we all know that a really great playlist can help to set the right mood.

Well, when the mood takes you, there are certain songs that are significantly more effective for … ahem… getting things going!

With this in mind, Lovehoney decided to find out which songs are the most popular for setting a sexy mood by searching Spotify’s steamiest playlists and finding which saucy songs appear most often. The list includes timeless classics and contemporary hits, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

To determine the ultimate sex playlist, 1,306 songs were analysed across Spotify’s top 20 playlists that include the words ‘sex’ or ‘sexy’ and from there, the songs were analysed using Spotify’s API tool which offers data like BPM for each song.

Across the original 1,306 songs, the average BPM was 115.8, which is around the same speed as Ariana Grande’s ‘Dangerous Woman’, as well as Rihanna’s, ‘Woo’.

Among the tracks are:

  1. "Sexual Healing" by Marvin Gaye – This timeless classic remains unmatched in its ability to create a romantic ambiance with its smooth melodies and sensual lyrics.

  2. "Earned It" by The Weeknd – Featured in the "Fifty Shades of Grey" soundtrack, this song brings an air of seduction and mystery.

  3. "Dangerous Woman" by Ariana Grande – With its sultry beat and powerful vocals, this track is perfect for igniting passion.

  4. "Lights On" by H.E.R. – A modern R&B gem that blends intimacy and emotion seamlessly.

  5. "Pony" by Ginuwine – A provocative and enduring hit that continues to set the standard for sexy music, mostly known from the movie Magic Mike.

The full playlist features a range of tempos and styles, from the slow and sensual rhythms of Sabrina Claudio's "Tastes So Good" to the upbeat and playful vibe of Rihanna's "Sex With Me." Each song has been selected to inspire desire and intimacy, making it the perfect backdrop for any romantic occasion.

The list of the sexiest songs is characterised by a variety of tempos. Across the 1,306 songs analysed the average tempo predominantly centred around the 114-118 BPM range, which is generally conducive to a relaxed and sensual atmosphere.

The list spans multiple genres, including R&B, pop, and soul, catering to a wide array of musical tastes and preferences.

Timeless classics like Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing" are featured alongside contemporary hits such as Dua Lipa's "Houdini" and The Weeknd's "Earned It," appealing to both nostalgic and modern sensibilities.

Many of the songs selected, like "If I Ain't Got You" by Wavvy Tape and "Love Of My Life" by Harry Styles, emphasise love and emotional connection, enhancing the intimacy of the playlist.

Popular artists known for their sensual music, such as Rihanna, Ariana Grande, and the Weekend, are prominently featured on the list. In fact, the top 5 most featured artists across the full list of 1,306 songs are:

We decided to find out which songs are the most popular for setting a sexy mood by searching Spotify’s steamiest playlists and finding which saucy songs appear most often.

We’ve analysed 1,306 songs across Spotify’s top 20 playlists that include the words ‘sex’ or ‘sexy’, to determine the ultimate sex playlist. We’ve also revealed the most featured artists, as well as analysed the beats per minute, to determine the best songs depending on the mood you’re in. Based on the findings across the original 1,340 songs, the average BPM was 115.8, giving us a range of 118-114 BPM that can be considered ideal for a sensual song.

From then a playlist was created and analysed using the Spotify API tool, Sort Your Music which offers data like BPM, danceability levels, and more for each song.

Sort Your Music lets you sort your playlist based on a number of Spotify's song attributes including:

·         Beats Per Minute (BPM) - The tempo of the song.

·         Energy - The energy of a song - the higher the value, the more energetic the song

·         Danceability - The higher the value, the easier it is to dance to this song.

·         Loudness - The higher the value, the louder the song.

·         Valence - The higher the value, the more positive mood for the song.

·         Acoustic - The higher the value the more acoustic the song is.

Menopause relief in the spotlight thanks to Monash University-led studies

Improved support and treatment for women experiencing serious physical and/or mental symptoms during menopause is the goal of innovative Monash University research. ActionAid welcomes the historic judgment of the ICJ

ActionAid welcomes the historic judgment of the court, which has declared that the Israeli Government’s continued occupation of the Palestinian territory is unlawful. The ICJ concluded that Israel’s treatment of Palestinians in the occupied territory constitutes systematic discrimination, and that its legislation and measures in the West Bank and East Jerusalem breach international conventions which prohibit apartheid. Every single day, our colleagues, partners and the people we support across the occupied Palestinian territory experience the trauma of living under a brutal occupation that severely curtails their basic rights and freedoms – just because they are Palestinian – and results in…
