“Since we launched this program, we have visited over 100 schools across Australia – from King Island to Far North Queensland, and now Nullagine.”

“The Parliament in Schools program is an integral part of improving civics education across Australia.”

“This program’s success is driven by its bi-partisanship. I am really looking forward to spending time with these federal MPs from across the political spectrum, to bring the Australian Parliament into their local schools.”

About the Parliament in Schools program

Launched in September 2022, the Parliament in Schools program is a bi-partisan initiative to make civics education accessible to students regardless of their location. In collaboration with local federal members, the Speaker is visiting schools across Australia to bring parliament to them.

The program is an extension to well-established Parliamentary Education Office (PEO) onsite, digital and outreach education programs available to schools across Australia.

It also complements the existing PEO online and print resources that are curriculum-aligned, for Australian teachers and students.

Students could become ‘collateral damage’ of law changes

The review is due to deliver a draft report to government before January 31, 2025. The draft report will contain preliminary findings and recommendations and stakeholders will be given the opportunity to provide further submissions. A final report…

Staff lose confidence in ANU boss after more shocking revelations

The National Tertiary Education Union says staff have lost confidence in Australian National University Vice-Chancellor Genevieve Bell after the latest revelations about her leadership. College deans have been hauled in to change management meetings, with at least one encouraged to resign, the Australian Financial Review reports. Earlier in the week, the AFR reported Professor Bell allegedly told senior staff she would “find you out and hunt you down” if they leaked information about planned $250 million budget cuts. The fresh revelations came after 88 per cent of staff voted against Professor Bell’s proposal for staff to give up an already-agreed…
