Calling Heavyweights of Heat ???????????

Mount Isa Rodeo Festival 3 mins read

Shank Brothers BBQ are turning up the heat at this year’s Mount Isa Rodeo Festival, with face-melting hot sauces, their famous

Hot Wing Challenge and Australia’s only Rib Wrecker Challenge 🔥🌶️♨️🥵

While Outback Queensland is famously hot, Brisbane’s Shank Brothers BBQ are taking HEAT to an all new level for this year’s Mount Isa Rodeo Festival next month.

The ‘Shanks’ are once again holding their legendary Hot Wing Challenge (many have tried, few have survived to take the title), and they are introducing a new race to the bone – Australia’s only Rib Wrecker Challenge, which is teams based, meaning more  iron-stomached masochists can fall by the red-dusty wayside! VNR (filmed vision) of the 2023 Challenge is available on request.

And in news that will thrill sauce and salt-rub-lovers, they have three rodeo-custom-created concoctions for sale, including the epic The Ghost of Chainsaw Hot Chilli Sauce that melted roads, dried dams and outshone the sun last year. But more of this later…..  for now, to the Challenges!

THE HOT WING CHALLENGE feat. *The Ghost of Chainsaw Chilli Sauce:

The Shank Brothers’ Hot Wing Challenge is legendary, and it’s the hottest hot wing challenge in Australia. Onlookers stare, transfixed with a mix of fascination and horror, as they watch chilli chasers and heat hunters compete-eat hot wings, until only one champion is left standing. It’s the literal Hunger Games and last year it was culinary carnage, with Ralph and Badger from Shank Brothers BBQ the Ringmasters of Fire. In an awe-inducing result, the victor, a woman proved she was in no need of a (chilli) wingman! Will she return to defend her Chilli Chalice?

INTRODUCING FOR THE FIRST TIME – The Rib Wrecker Challenge:

Gird your loins Mount Isa, Australia's only Rib Wrecker Challenge is nigh! In what will be a record-breaking race to the bone, teams will face off to see who can demolish BBQ's finest rack of pork ribs the fastest. Grand Champions of the rib rampage will be crowned, while those ruined by the ribs have only memories, and possibly indigestion!

TAKE SOME HOME – IF YOU DARE!

On sale for $20 each and ONLY at the Mount Isa Rodeo Festival, created by Shank Brothers BBQ:

  • The Ghost of Chainsaw Hot Chilli Sauce: Cowboys fear it, Cowgirls want it and Paramedics deal with it. This is an absolute raging inferno in a bottle. Read below about the legend that was Chainsaw.

  • Bull Buster BBQ Sauce: A classic BBQ Sauce with all the right flavours in all the right places! Use it on Pork Ribs, Chicken Wings or chug it straight from the bottle!!

  • Blondie’s Bliss Salt Rub: An all-purpose rub with a bold yet smooth flavour profile. Shake liberally on your favourite BBQ meats and buckle in for a delicious ride.

CHAINSAW.

It’s a name that still gives cowboys across the country a cold shiver. He was the famous, unrideable bull who reigned supreme across the Australian rodeo circuit between 1987 and 1994. He could spin on a two cent piece, lunge, kick all four legs in the air, and fly out of the chute and barrel role with an athleticism that made Michael Jordan look like a penguin. Long after his final buck, Chainsaw remains a rodeo legend. Famed cowboy Darren ‘Brandi’ Brandenburg (pictured) rode Chainsaw but didn’t make time. Will the sauce inspired by the legend also stop Brandi in his tracks this year!

Shankie Ralph Barnett said the Ghost of Chainsaw sauce is every bit as fiery as the champion bull, and is guaranteed to knock rodeo goers on their butts in less than eight seconds flat. “Making the sauce felt like building a nuclear bomb,” he said. “Every step had to be treated with extreme caution due to the potency of all the different chilies mixing together.”

They forged this beast of a sauce from the world’s hottest chilies, including Carolina Reaper, Moruga Scorpion, Habanero and Bhut Joloki. But how does it taste? After being deceived by a pleasant hit of fruity habanero with garlic, onion and lime notes, “an unrelenting inferno attacks all the senses,” said Ralph.

Statement following the death of Pope Francis

I join billions of Christians around the world in thanking God for the life and ministry of Pope Francis. Francis ministered as Pope with great humility, humanity and a real focus on trying to follow the way of Jesus. Not only did he dedicate his life to serving the poor and standing up for those facing persecution, he was a great advocate for peace during these unsettling times. I had the privilege of joining with the Primates of the Anglican Communion for a private audience with the Pope in March 2024. He encouraged us in our ministry as bishops and…
