Committee invites submissions on Truth and Justice Commission Bill 2024

Parliament of Australia < 1 mins read

The Joint Standing Committee on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs has commenced an inquiry into the Truth and Justice Commission Bill 2024, introduced in the Senate by Yamatji-Noongar Senator Dorinda Cox.

The Bill proposes to establish a Federal Truth and Justice Commission, which would provide a national framework for truth-telling about the history and impacts of colonisation, dispossession, and systemic racism on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The commission would also make recommendations on how to advance justice, healing, raise awareness and increase public understanding, and reconciliation for First Nations communities and the wider Australian society.

Chair of the Committee, Mutthi Mutthi and Wamba Wamba Senator Jana Stewart, said the inquiry was an opportunity to hear from stakeholders and experts on the merits and challenges of the provisions in the Bill.

The Committee welcomes submissions from interested individuals and organisations on any or all aspects of the Bill by Friday 6 September 2024.

Further information on the inquiry, including the terms of reference and how to contribute, is available on the Committee’s website.

ZIONIST FEDERATION OF AUSTRALIA RESPONSE TO ROYAL COMMISSION ANNOUNCEMENT

8 January 2026 MEDIA RELEASE - For immediate release The Zionist Federation of Australia welcomes the Government’s decision to establish a Royal Commission into antisemitism and the 14 December Bondi terrorist attack, and acknowledges the breadth of the terms of reference. This decision reflects the clear and consistent calls of the Australian Jewish community, alongside a broad cross-section of Australian society, that the scale and severity of antisemitism confronting our country demands a serious national response. We welcome the opportunity this Royal Commission provides to examine how antisemitic hatred was able to grow and become normalised, and to ensure that…

bondiroyalcommission.com.au – New website launched to support calls for a Federal Royal Commission into the Bondi terror attack

8 January 2026 — For immediate release Chris Garnaut, one of the business leaders who publicly called for a Royal Commission into the Bondi terror attack in its immediate aftermath, has today launched a new national website - bondiroyalcommission.com.au - to support calls for a Commonwealth Royal Commission. Mr Garnaut was among the early business signatories urging the Federal Government to establish an independent national inquiry, noting that the scale and nature of the attack raised serious national questions best examined through a federal process rather than a limited or fragmented review. “From the outset, it was clear that this…
