NEW RETURN AND EARN MACHINE NOW OPEN IN BELLBIRD PARK

Return and Earn 2 mins read

Cessnock residents have a new location to recycle their eligible bottles and cans, with a brand-new Return and Earn machine now open at Bellbird Park Bowling Club.

The new Return and Earn machine is the 7th return point in the Cessnock area, providing locals with even more opportunities to return their eligible bottles and cans for the 10c refund.

“The Cessnock community are already enthusiastic recyclers, having returned over 149.7 million eligible bottles, cans and cartons through local return points since the scheme began,” said James Dorney, CEO of TOMRA Cleanaway, the network operator for the scheme.

Users of the new machine can print a voucher for the refund amount, which can be redeemed for cash at Woolworths, or they can opt for an e-voucher or payment into their bank or PayPal account using the Return and Earn app.

Locals can also choose to donate their refund to one of the charity partners listed on the machine or one of the many charities listed on the Return and Earn app.

Riding for the Disabled Raymond Terrace & Lower Hunter, the John Hunter Children’s Hospital Kid’s Club and WIRES Wildlife Rescue are three great local options, with funds raised through Return and Earn supporting their work in the Cessnoock area.

Local recyclers can also choose to donate their refund to the current state-wide donation appeal in support of Little Wings, providing free air and ground transport for seriously ill children from regional and remote areas across NSW, allowing for life-saving medical treatments.

More than 11.7 billion containers have been returned for recycling through the network of 630 return points across NSW since the scheme began, resulting in more than $1 billion in container refunds back in people’s pockets.

Return and Earn is also a key fundraising channel for many charities and community groups in NSW with more than $54 million raised from donations and fees from hosting return points since the scheme launched.

The Bellbird Return and Earn machine is located at Bellbird Park Bowling Club at 21 Hetton Street, Bellbird. The machine is open from 8:00am to 7:00pm daily.

“I encourage everyone to make Return and Earn a part of your regular recycling routine. Together we can all contribute to a more sustainable future, where the materials that our bottles, cans and cartons are made of are kept in use and out of landfill,” Mr Dorney said.

Experts Sound Alarm for Australia on Urban Fire Risk like LA

January 6 2026 At least 6.9 million Australians living on the expanding fringes of our capital cities could be at risk from urban fires supercharged by climate pollution, a joint report from former Australian fire chiefs and the Climate Council has found. The report comes after devastating fires claimed the life of a firefighter, and destroyed dozens of homes across New South Wales and Tasmania in December 2025. The report When Cities Burn: Could the LA Fires happen here? details how climate pollution, from burning coal, oil and gas, is turbo-charging dangerous fire conditions.
