MEDIA OPPORTUNITY: Interview Imam Syed Wadood Janud and members of the local Muslim Community.

Details of the Press Conference:

Date: Today, Thursday 4th July 2024
Time: 9:00 AM (AWST)
Location: Nasir Mosque (239 Barrington St, Bibra Lake WA 6163)

Perth, Australia – The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Western Australia will hold a press conference today at 9:00 AM (AWST) at the Perth's largest Mosque (Nasir Mosque) to publicly support Senator Fatima Payman's principled and moral stance on recognising the state of Palestine.

Senator Payman, in a courageous and conscientious decision, chose to cross the floor in Parliament, despite understanding the potential repercussions. Her actions were driven by the principles of Absolute Justice, which should always supersede any party politics or other affiliations. She highlighted the urgency of the situation, noting that more than 40,000 Palestinians have lost their lives, and they cannot afford to wait for prolonged debates about their recognition.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Western Australia stands firmly with Senator Payman, emphasizing that justice and morality must guide our actions. We also note the Labour government's stance on a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict. It is imperative to recognise that such a solution cannot begin to take shape without acknowledging the state of Palestine.

Imam Syed Wadood Janud noted that "at a time when innocent lives are lost on a daily basis, we cannot waste time in long ended debates. We must do better to ensure the sanctity of human life is preserved and we, as Australians, show through our actions that we value all lives equally. Selective humanity is no humanity. And we expect our government to do better to prevent any further violence. No one or country should be above law, and we must act to bring all perpetrators of crime against humanity to the court of law."

We invite members of the media, community leaders, and the public to join us in this significant moment of solidarity and support for justice.

Treasurer must levy big coal and gas corporations to fund climate disasters Make Big Polluters Pay

Climate disasters are projected to cost the federal budget $6.3 billion in the upcoming mid-year economic forecast this week. The Treasurer should follow public opinion and ensure coal and gas corporations responsible for most climate pollution pay for these costs, rather than forcing ordinary taxpayers to shoulder the burden, according to the Make Big Polluters Pay alliance. Climate disasters already cost the economy $38 billion each year, with households, communities, local governments and small businesses paying to recover from extreme weather. These impacts are also driving up insurance premiums, food prices and household bills. Deloitte projects disaster costs will exceed…
