Victorian Chamber awarded Gender Equity citation

The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry 2 mins read

The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry is proud to announce that we are one of only 115 Australian organisations to receive the Workplace Gender and Equality Agency (WGEA)’s Employer of Choice for Gender Equality citation for 2023-25.

The Victorian Chamber prides itself on promoting gender equality and driving initiatives internally and externally in a multitude of ways including our globally-recognised program Chamber Change.

The WGEA assessment process is rigorous. Criteria for the citation includes providing evidence of programs, strategies and initiatives across various categories such as leadership, learning and development, gender pay gaps and flexible working options. It also considers initiatives that support family responsibilities, employee consultation, survey results, preventing gender-based harassment and discrimination and targets for improving gender equality outcomes.

The Victorian Chamber is one of only eight first-time applicants to be successful in achieving the citation.

To be attributed to WGEA Chief Executive Officer Mary Wooldridge:

The WGEA Employer of Choice for Gender Equality citation recognises an employer’s efforts to tackle the deep-rooted causes of gender inequality in the workplace.

“In taking action to improve gender equality, the EOCGE employers unlock enormous benefits for their business. Employees are more likely to join and to stay in organisations that prioritise a culture of equality and inclusion. Research also shows that businesses with greater gender balance in leadership roles are more profitable and productive.”

To be attributed to Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chief Executive Paul Guerra:

“We are proud to be recognised as drivers of gender equality in the workplace; it’s a commitment we live by every day. We actively work to ensure all staff reach their full potential. A gender diverse workplace improves innovation, productivity and reputation.”

To be attributed to Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chief of Staff Chanelle Pearson:

“WGEA’s Employer of Choice for Gender Equity citation is an important and powerful accolade which demonstrates that we practice what we preach. The Victorian Chamber’s true success lies in creating an environment where everyone’s talents are recognised and valued equally.”
